Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I suspect they decided there was already too much going on in Season 2 to reintroduce the Romulans. They're saying them for STPicard and the Sec31 show, my guess.

One thing that I don't understand is how they'll manage to take Georgiou away from Michael's future and back into S31? That will be an impressive trick to make that believable.

Michael: "Did you see that? Georgiou fell into that temporal wormhole that spontaneously opened before her and closed immediately after she disappeared in it!! I wonder where she'll end up!"

I'm wondering how they'd manage it as well, considering that Georgiou would have just as much reason to feel at home in the 32nd century as in the 23rd one: none. Neither is her actual home. The only reason I could imagine for her returning to the past intentionally is if the 32nd century is such a dystopian and dangerous one that she'd decide to pick the safer option, but in that case you'll have to start wondering why the rest of the crew would decide to stay in such a bleak place. Especially if they could avert a bad future by going back to the past with all the historical knowledge leading up to the 32nd century.

I'm certain there are ways to make it work, but it will have to be built up really well. Maybe if they found a method that only allows personal travel. Discovery could end up in grave danger and Georgiou would decide there's no point in waiting for Stamets/Tilly/Reno/etc. to adapt the time machine to the whole ship if they could all be blown up in five minutes, so she'd decide to just save her own skin instead.

I think that's where the red angel suit comes into it. They find a way to break the rubber banding tether effect, but at the last minute, instead of Mama Burnham using it, Georgiou does. Which ultimately removes that option for the ship to return to its own time.

I can even imagine the Section 31 series starting that way... the Enterprise is alerted about another red burst, and upon arrival, they find the RA suit with a faint life sign, floating in space. They beam it into sickbay; Pike and Spock look at each other and race down there without saying a word to each other, clearly worried about what can only be Burnham, then they watch as the suit opens... revealing Georgiou inside.

I think the Pike series and the S31 series will be separate ones. Do you think they'll be crossovers between these two series?

I'm not sure if there will be a Pike series at this point. But if we do get one, I doubt it would start concurrently with the S31 one, so Pike & Co having a guest appearance in the pilot or later from time to time is within the realm of possibility. And, well, CBS already has a franchise with multiple series whose main casts had guest appearances on each others' shows. If they could do it with CSI, it's definitely possible with Star Trek. They even did a three-parter episode once centering on Laurence Fishburne's character, with each part being an episode of a different CSI series.

And what about the problem of Maria? I mean Leland?

They still have all those nanites stuck to the floor of the spore chamber and you can't just pick them up and burn them or chuck them out an airlock, what if they are still motile and active once you pick them up?

I think it's not that much of a problem and could be solved by a few throwaway lines in the next season; it all depends on how Control's nanites really work. I suspect they act as a distributed storage for the software, each only containing a different part of the code and Control would only work up to specs if all the nanites are able to communicate with each other.

It could also depend on how strong the electromagnetic field in the reaction cube was. I'm not much of a tech guy myself, but what I find on the internet indicates that an EM field generated by an alternating current with a high enough frequency might be able to wipe the contents of a modern hard drive, and even if it doesn't, it could alter enough individual bits in the data to corrupt it and make it unreadable. An even stronger EM field might even physically deform the hardware (the individual nanites in this case), rendering it unusable outright.

I can buy that as an explanation. EM field might definitely do it.

Yep they are.

Can someone explain all the falling rocks whenever a wall, ceiling or console explodes?

The question is why do they put plasma conduits behind consoles? Looks like a major design flaw to me. One would think that given their dangerousness, they'd be extremely parsimonious with these conduits. You don't expect the fuel line of your car to go through your seat for example.

Probably the same genius who decided that "Safety Settings: OFF" would be the default setting for the holodeck so that every single memory error would revert the whole thing to full lethality. There's apparently no OSHA in the future.

Depends on where you live, tbh... I grew up in the former Eastern Bloc and for a few years after the Wall fell, the roads continued to be littered with old Trabants. Its gas tank had to be placed on top of the engine because it didn't have a fuel pump, so they had to resort to gravity instead... frontal collisions usually meant the whole car going up in flames. It also had a two-stroke engine, so it needed to use a fuel-oil mix. It produced huge, beautiful black billows of smoke, especially if it caught fire. There was a silver lining though... because the fuel tank was literally in front of the driver's legs, it didn't need a fuel gauge. They just cut a sight glass into the dashboard so that you could look into the tank directly. The bast part? The car's body was built of a cellulose-based organic polymer made of recycled cotton waste from clothing factories. That animals could digest. There are actual videos of pigs eating the car.

Isn't it something like 50,000 volts or something to drive console screens on the Bridge? I'm sure I read that in the TNG book they put out. Basically a touch screen but why that much voltage?

In my head canon, Star Trek weaponry has a characteristic that allows it to send unnatural energy surges to consoles and equipment, thus causing them to explode.

If you notice, it's almost always torpedoes, for example. Phasers damage the immediate compartment they hit, but torpedoes send shockwaves of explosions through ships.

Something to consider.

Nhan: "I didn't find Capt. Georgiou, but I did see a large blue police box on the hangar deck. It's gone now though. Weird".
