Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

Not necessarily better, but different with its own challenges.
For someone who looks like me, life is better. When someone is already at the top of the cultural pile I guess life is pretty much the same but with more advanced tech.

So thinking you were winning the debate deliberately weakened your argument by saying something ugly?
Going down the ugly path first yourself by implying I said something racially prejudiced in this statement
"oh you mean when Burnham joined the crew looking like a Vulcan wanna be cos Sarek hoped to stifle the humanity out of her but then expected Captain Georgiou to revive it? I'm surprised he did not bleach her skin and give her a green tint."

The concept of 'the good old days' isn't so much about technology but a nostalgic idea that the past was better. Its hardly a new concept either, as even the poets of Ancient Greece gazed longingly backwards. It does blind people to the idea that by many very important measures, we are living in a golden age compared to what has come before.
That does not change the fact that 1988 was the best year in human history. I got a He-Man sword for my birthday!

one bit or lore that hasn't been touched on in some time: humans smell really bad to Vulcans. Spock never mentioned this or perhaps he does not think humans smell bad, and Vulcans don't think he smells bad. Hybrid vigour and all that. We only know what one character in trek smells like: good ole earthy peaty Worf, but maybe Burnham stinks. That could not have been easy, going to school, smelling bad and nothing you could do about it.

Did they actually say humans smell bad or just humans smell? It could be the human smell drives Vulcans wild with lust and they hate us for it lol
If humans really stank up the place like a sewage how did Sarek manage all those years? Maybe he had no sense of smell

No T'Pol found human odor offensive. Over several years she got used to it.
Maybe humans in the 22nd century did not wash often enough. I know folks who don't wash after they get up in the morning, all that sleep sweat ...yuk

That was the single dumbest addition to Star Trek during the Berman years, by far.

I kind of liked it. They never made aliens alien enough and for once humans were the aliens in that moment. But it didn't stop T'pol from doing "vulcan foot pressure" or whatever it was she and Trip got up to.

New aliens? It might have worked. Vulcans, who we'd watched for the past 35 years at that point? It was dumb. Dumb enough that I think they just quietly ditched it.

Much like the goth Klingons of Discovery.

They brought it up again towards the end of the show. She'd stated she'd mostly gotten used to it, if memory serves.

Well after 100 years Phlox camomile nasal drops were a big hit for Vulcans in the Diaspora. Sarek used it all the time.
