Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

yeah life with no remote control, internet, tv streaming service and only three TV stations and no colour tv was a lot of fun.....

Nor was it as bad as some folks make it out to be. There's always give and take when technology grows.

It doesn't sound like you either watched the first two eps of the series, or weren't paying attention when you did. Sounds like you missed a few crucial insights into Michael Burnham that you would have picked up there
Thanks for not providing any evidence

What? I'm telling you where you will find the evidence. Watch the scenes between Sarek and Michael and get back to me on how these scenes support your argument that he abused her, as I found none that did.

Sure ignorance is bliss no one knew they needed a mobile phone until they became cheap, but socially the good old days were not that good

I was born in 1971. I don't have any complaints about the technology I had access to growing up. It was quite an accomplishment to get stations from Dayton and Louisville to come in so I could get extra Trek reruns, or watch an NFL game that wasn't available in my area.

And I still don't have a mobile phone.

oh you mean when Burnham joined the crew looking like a Vulcan wanna be cos Sarek hoped to stifle the humanity out of her but then expected Captain Georgiou to revive it? I'm surprised he did not bleach her skin and give her a green tint.

I agree that is why I said no one knew they needed a mobile phone, remote control, etc until they came along mass produced and affordable, you not having one is an exception to the rule.

It is just a fallacy that life is automatically better because we have access to more technology. Technology is only a piece of any given individual puzzle.

I did not say life is automatically better due to tech, but using a remote control is better than fiddling with buttons, and a having a mobile phone is better than using a stinky phone box.

The concept of 'the good old days' isn't so much about technology but a nostalgic idea that the past was better. Its hardly a new concept either, as even the poets of Ancient Greece gazed longingly backwards. It does blind people to the idea that by many very important measures, we are living in a golden age compared to what has come before.
