Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I look back on how some of Lorca and Stamets's exchanges went...and it always surprises me that Lorca somehow held back from snapping his neck given his MU origin.

I'm loving the exchanges between the two of them. Stamets is really growing on me and you can kind of see where he was coming from in these early episodes where he was kinda crazy. His life's work was basically stolen from him. You'd be pissed too if that happened to you.

I haven't gotten to my two favorite episodes of the season yet (Magic and into the forest I go) but Choose Your Pain was such a great episode. We are starting to get Lorca's backstory and knowing he is from the mirror universe, what happened on the Boran is all that much more important. Also, I was dreading Mudd's inclusion on this series, but Wilson does a much better job with him than the original I think. I know it's blasphmous, but there is more of a sinister side to Wilson's version that I'm really enjoying.

Harry WAS Sinister when first introduced.
It's just that Kirk started treating him like a buffoon once they figured out the Ladies were getting the Drug from Harry and it was all a con. (Mudd's Women)

I think Harry panicked once his cover was blown, all his suave calm got blown out the airlock and anytime after that when he had to deal with Kirk, he always felt a bit over matched.
(thus his use of the Androids in "I MUDD" to try and best James)

I like that DISCOVERY has brought back that malevolent aspect of harry's personality.

You can't make this stuff up. I'm at work. I just stepped outside onto the parking lot and what do I see? An SUV. What type of SUV? It's a Discovery!

Coincidence? I think... Let's have a debate about determinism and the nature of free will or lack thereof!

(actually, let's not and stick to canon debates)

I just have one more episode to go in my Discovery (Prepare for the Convention) rewatch and there are things I liked more now than I did the first time around. For one, Suru has greatly improved since the original viewing. I watched What's Past is Prolouge last night and I love his speech, especially when he says "Discovery is ours, and this is our maiden voyage". That is a very Star Trek thing, and actually everything taking place on Discovery in that episode was great from the acting to the Trek solution and the visual effects going through the network were incredibly stunning. However, I still think what they did with Lorca was wasted and just felt it was too early to go to the mirror universe. Yeah it's interesting to talk about identity and what that universe can do to a person, but we could have spent so much more time getting to know this group of characters better and then go to the mirror universe in season 2 or later on. They could have told the same story in Season 2 rather than Season 1, and it would have allowed us to spend more time with this Lorca and allow that transition to go down easier.

Despite those issues, I liked doing this rewatch. Suru kind of reminds me of Odo, and I am a bit more excited for season 2. I hope some good things comes out of the panel today, maybe even a trailer.

Reminder, Discovery panel is about 22 minutes (1:30 PT, 4:30ET) at comic-con TrekCore will be live tweeting
