Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

She remembers to send a signal to ler her brother know she is alright, but does not bother to check the history records, for a whole year, to find out what happened to said brother and any of her family.
Nonsense!

If I end up 900 years in the future I wouldn't be too anxious to look up my family that would be long dead. It would be too hurtful reminder of what is lost. I would eventually do it but not right away. and in this case there was nothing urgent about it.

That's a good point. But, even Burnham notes that she didn't feel she had a place in this new century and focusing on the Burn was the best way to feel like she mattered.

Do you all think that one of the future Starfleet ships seen in the future was the Enterprise? I would like to think that the Enterprise lineage survived up until then (because after all, the Voyager lineage survived, as we saw).

I see two possibilities:

1. There's an Enterprise. Pretty plain and simple, cut-and-dried, and not much story to it.

2. The name was retired after The Burn. I'm assuming there was an Enterprise during The Burn and it blew up along with all the other active ships. The Enterprise represents the zenith of Starfleet. There's no zenith in the 32nd Century. So when Starfleet is fully restored, we'll see a new Enterprise. Whether it's in DSC or another series.

I think the second of these possibilities is more interesting, and better in keeping with the history of the Enterprise's lineage.

The Enterprise is a trophy ship. It's never around when Times Are Tough for a prolonged period. It was kept out of the Klingon War in DSC. On DS9, while the Dominion War was raging on, it was off on wacky Insurrection type of adventures. So it wouldn't surprise me that a Starfleet that's cocooned itself, like in DSC S3, wouldn't have an Enterprise "boldly go where no one has gone before." They're keeping a low profile.

Yeah, that's true, Enterprise D and later on E is often on the sidelines.

Yep, but like I said it works better for the story beats. Like Kirk never once having looked at Spock bio so we can have a dramatic moment in Journey To Babel,

I've worked closely with many people over many years. 99% of the time, I don't know the names of their parents. And when I do, it's usually an assumption because they're a "Jr.".

I'm sure Spock's bio said that his father was named Sarek and his mother was named Amanda, but that shouldn't surprise anyone because they know he's half-human (and who knows how many Sarek's live on Vulcan).

Kirk isn't in the habit of doing a deep dive of his officers' family histories. He probably has checked Spock's professional credentials under Pike, and his performance reviews, but anything beyond that is unnecessary. And it's not like Spock, of all people, is in the habit of talking about his family life and background growing up on Vulcan.

They should rename the Discovery to Enterprise. <gets booed out of room>

Spock's more than a co-worker though. He had Jim and Bones as the "best men" at his wedding. I know the names of my best friend's parents.

And when a Sarek and an Amanda show up on his ship...

I think there is a very high likelihood there hasn't been an Enterprise since the Burn. I think from a writing stand point not having an Enterprise in the 32nd century is symbolic of the state of the Federation. I reckon we'll see one under construction in season 4 as a symbol of the Federation rebuilding and moving towards a hopeful future.

It will be the name of the first Spore Drive ship off the production line.

Would rather they restrict the Spore drive or explore the nature of the network more, what beings are in there, etc.
