Gate's McFadden's Podcast

I love this podcast. She was on another one talking about two-parter she did with Wheaton and I listened to that one first. She’s an interesting woman, and she does a great job of keeping the discussion moving. It’s fun to hear people on the inside of all this talking with each other about their lives and Trek.

@Takeru I don’t recommend the one with Brent Spiner though. I just listened to it last night. The first part about their family histories and coming to America was fine — my own parents were immigrants. But the second half was about Chaplin, Keaton, Laurel, and Hardy, who they’re big fans of. It’s them doing about them what we do about Trek, but “I never really got it” in regard to those films.

The Wheaton episodes were great. They played getting to know you games that were great as a listener. And Frakes is still in the biz and is a talker.

Just listened to the latest episode with Marina Sirtis. I really like this podcast. It’s more about the actors’ early lives, upbringing, and interests than much anything Trek, but I really get into it in the car or on the go.

The two-parter with Nana Visitor was harrowing and illuminating. I had no idea she'd gone through such trauma.

You know I listened to that episode(s) distracted at the gym I think, and it’s like I processed it almost as an episode of television. Like, it’s something that Nana had to act out than have really happen to her. Oh, the benefits of a relatively safe, quiet, life on my part. I’m grateful that she survived and was able to come into our lives through Star Trek. I even got to ask her and René Auberjonois a question once at a convention in Valley Forge, and I remember she was very kind.

I couldn't believe it happened to her while she was appearing in the show, or that I hadn't heard anything about it before. Absolutely crazy.

Oh that’s right. It happened in ‘94, and the show went from ‘93-‘99. I think I remember some vague talk about something, but I was young and news was harder to come by.

BTW have you listened to other episodes? I’ve actually listened to them all so far. Frakes, Wheaton, or Sirtis have been my favorites so far. Spiner was kind of a dud for me — I liked his family history fine enough but the talk about the Silent Movie Era was a chore. Still, I put Chaplin’s City Lights on my to-watch list so perhaps their evil plan worked.

I've listened to the first nine. Spiner's was fine, just two old friends having a chat about something they enjoy; a pleasant enough way to pass an hour while pottering about the house. Wheaton's was the standout, for obvious reasons. Frakes was excellent too.

Does anyone know what happened to this podcast? It seemed to be going great guns last year with a new episode every couple of weeks, then suddenly no updates for six months :(
