Garrett Wang joins Star Trek Axanar.

Oh no. Why he was almost fired is a different set of problems from why he didn't wind up behind the camera.

Why Garret wasn't allowed/asked to direct is because he left as soon as his shooting was finished.

The rest of the cast that had directing jobs on Voyager, stayed on their own time, helped out and learnt the fundamentals and here's the biggy "They asked if they could direct."

I think it all comes down to the same thing regardless of exact reasons given. Attitude, commitment, professionalism. However you want to put it, he just wasn't leadership material.

Geez, what a tool! Makes me dislike Harry even more than I already do.

I was going to make some argument about how Garret was still a kid, and playing as hard as you work is supposed to be how you take care of business in Burbank...

In 1997, Garret Dick Wang was 29 years old.

He was in his late 20's when he got Voyager. Hardly a kid, in my opinion. Jennifer Lien was the youngest cast member (I think) and I have yet to hear anything bad about her.

Apparently, it was too difficult for them to write stories about Kes.

Obviously that's totally on her, or they wouldn't have had to fire the girl.

But they were going to fire Garrett Wang to begin with. If he hadn't been on that People's List, I bet they wouldn't have reconsidered.

That was part of it. What I read somewhere was the ST Powers That Be decided they didn't need two blondes (one cute, one hot) on the show.

3 if you count Paris, and four if you count Sam.

This also dooms any pretence that Marla Gilmore was going to stay and be Chakotay's lobster.

But really who categorizes their porn by hair colour?

Who cares about hair color? Guys who insist they watch ST for the ideas and drama and aliens and exploration but get bored and change the channel if there isn't at least one pair of bewbs or a cute butt to follow around the ship/station.

TOS: Starfleet crew is in short skirts. There is also a veritable parade of hotties throughout the series.

STNG: Marina Sirtis and her form-fitting uniforms.

DS9: Terry Farrell: A former fashion model. Incessant references are made throughout the series to her looks and sexiness and prowess in bed.
Chase Masterson: boobs, incessant cleavage shots
Nana Visitor: a cute butt in a dominatrix outfit in the alternate universe

Voyager: Jennifer Lien: a pretty face w a cute butt.
Jeri Ryan: a full-blown hottie in a suffocating cat-suit.

Enterprise: Jolene Blalock: constantly semi-dressed
Linda Park: Cutie

You aren't 'allowed' to direct. You actually have to work behind the scenes, as a AD and other jobs, to show that you are capable of directing. They don't just hand you the script and a megaphone and say, allright, go and direct. To much at stake, and I'm not talking about a badly directed episode acting-wise. You have to manage time and money, making sure episodes don't go over budget or take to long to direct. A lot of little stuff goes on.

I believe it was Tim Russ or Robbie McNeil who, in the extras, talked a lot about how you get that job, if you are interested.

If Garrett wasn't allowed to direct, it's for two reasons and two alone. He either did go through all that and the producers felt he wasn't good enough, or he just simply wanted to direct, was told what he needed to learn before all that, and threw a fit.

A 3rd reason is possible. He expressed interest and the producers said no to training him because he was an irresponsible flake.

Why not believe Garret?

Berman is a racist who despises Asians.

(Even if it's true, you can't take Garret seriously after saying that.)

Whoa. Gaping black hole in that list.

Don't take this the wrong way, because I have no issues with critique or comments on what I say....

But it would help if you stated what, exactly.

You didn't make a list.

Jeff (in Oakland) made a list.

Janeway was NOT on the list!

I fell off my chair in shock, well I leaned heavily leeward. And it was sad and I posted.

Ah, I see. Sorry. It was immediatly after my post, so I asumed. Should not have done so. I apologize. :)

Kate Mulgrew is an attractive woman but was hired to provide credible acting ballast to mostly inexperienced cast not to be eyecandy.
