I was a-wonderin' when this would turn into a Beltran bashing thread - cos like you know, it's been oooo, minutes since the last one
Beltran never asked or wanted to direct on Voyager - period. I don't see how this is relevant in any way to the GW 'they wouldn't let me direct' situation."Medium" on NBC recently.

But in all seriousness, despite a opinion that may or may not be seriously bias, he really hasn't said anything that thousands of others on this board haven't said already or knew. Rick Berman tales criticism and suggestions as well as your typical teenage fanbrat on Fanfiction.net. Which is an insult to fifteen year old fanbrats, since most of them will tell you to your face to STFU and not get a messenger to do it for them.
Big woop, he said Berman didn't take risks. Well, wasn't he right? I disagree on him naming DS9 in the list, since I think they did take rists, but for the most part, Wang was right (and it's up for debate if ENT took risks in season three or not).

Considering that UPN all but sat on his head and told him to shape up an arc or ship out, I'd say no. There were a few things that were a bit edgier than other Treks (Losing a fourth of the crew in one attack, Archer and Co. stealing the warp core from an innocent species), but there was so much that could have--and should have!!

) and some that should have been dropped-kicked entirely.AS for Garrett not getting a shot at directing a show, Bob, Robbie, and Roxie put in HOURS of there off time on set, in production meetings, and in the editing bays learning that trade. They even use to come in on days they were not being used. Garrett was out of his trailer and on his way home 15 seconds after he was told he was wraped for the day. Garrett is a great guy but just did not want to invest his own time into learning how to direct. I have alot of problems with how Rick ran his shop but not letting Garrett direct is a bum wrap against him.

Exactly.
Garrett was famous for coming to the set late and goofing off while he was there. He can't put the blame on Berman for not taking his own job seriously. However, Garrett was very young at the time and his mind set wasn't on his work. Like many his age, it was more on the enjoyment of having the job he had. We all make mistakes in our youth, still Garrett should at least be a man and own up to it.

It's my understanding that the producers made Wang sweat over a full hiatus, for slippage into "unprofessional" behaviours, by them giving Harry Kim the Species 8472 virus. Had Wang not performed well, he would be killed off. It worked, and Harry lived.

Yep, pretty much. They had a personnel problem, and a means to solve it.
That's pretty crappy business dealings though - instead of taking care of the situation behind cameras they bring that junk onto the set.
Now I'm gonna wonder about all the plot twists and turns and wonder if writers actually wanted it or if the higher ups just said, "Hey, we don't like person A anymore - have something bad happen to them on screen"...
