Bashir and O'Brien actually sang a drunken duet, in "Explorers". Bashir never did that with Garak.

Another Bashir and O'Brien moment:

I didn't know what the song was. I had to look it up. The song is not rock, metal or pop.

The name of the song is "Jerusalem", an English Christian hymn, according to Memory Alpha.

It is curious that the writer chose a song from this genre of music.
They didn't. It was Meaney and Siding who suggested it.

O'Brien probably learned it from his old granny.

"Jerusalem", although adopted by many congregations, isn't technically a hymn. It is well-known to many people across a wide cultural spectrum.

For instance, it's used as an anthem by England sports teams when playing teams from other parts of the UK. It appears in "Last Night at The Proms" every year. It's been sung at at every shade of political conference and the Women's Institute. I recall it as being a frequent favourite on coach outings. It's not uncommonly sung in drunken chorus in exactly the same way as we see in this scene.

Seems to me to be a good choice!

To be honest, I didn't like when they made Bashir genetically enchanced. he was good as he was without that addition.

At first, I was on the fence but then I thought it was an interesting approach to the genetically enhanced and that it challenged the idea that not all GH people are bad. Bashir was perhaps the most moral and compassionate person on DS9. I still think it was harsh sending his dad to prison. Also, even if you don't agree with it, you can't deny that this is a great friendship moment. Love how non phased O'Brien is. He did not even have to consider it. He was the first of his friends to know. Now that's trust.

Again, not one vote for Garak. Huh.

I would rellay have loved to vote for Garak in this poll but to be honest, O'Brien was Bashir's best friend.

As for the "genetic enchanched thing", it was too much over the top for me. I thought Bashir was good as he was.

So, I just read this recent article on "Screenrant" I go for various geeks stuff. They are not always completely accurate but... anyway what is your opinion? I agree that Obrien is his best friend. They were definitely closer on a personal level. While Garak and Bashir were more intellectual equals and communicated with each other well. Garak did not even mind blowing up a planet with Bashir on it for the greater good. O'Brien is who Bashir went to about his secret of being a genetically enhanced human. Not Garak. Though, they did replace Garak with O'Brien I felt, my theory is that of the homosexual undertones who knows how their friendship could have progressed. In the end with what is canon Bashir was more loyal than Garak as Bashir stuck with him threw the withdrawals from his implants. What is your opinion? I would like to add Jadzia as they were occasional confidants. But I don't think she would make it to a poll.

I man can have more than one best friend. Honestly, I feel like it's 50/50, O'Brien and Garak are both his best friend. Bashir latched onto O'Brien, but Garak latched onto Bashir.  I voted "can't decide."

IMO anyway besides liking the friendship between Garak and Bashir I do not think Garak is his best friend just his first one. But still I am amazed he has not got any votes. I was bowled over someone actually chose "Can't decide." Lol.

It's not as cultured.

At least that's my reading and certainly an attitude I held as a young man.

I'd employ a more heuristic argument.

Those classical music pieces we hear in TNG already survived 2 to 4 centuries and are still popular. So it's not out of the question their popularity will endure another 3 centuries.

Rock, on the other hand, has only been there for 50-60 years, and it remains to be seen how it'll be viewed in the 24th century when our generations are long dead. May still be popular, may be utterly forgotten, much like a lot of popular music from the 17th century also has been forgotten today and we've only kept some 'masterpieces' from that era.

Anyway, to them both rock and classical music might go into the same general basket as both forms of 'old/classical music' - they'd probably listen to something more contemporary. I'd wager there'd be a lot of alien influences in the popular music of the day.

Yes. Bashir and Garak were friendly acquaintances, that's all. Garak didn't know about Bashir being enhanced, or wishing he'd been good enough to do it professionally, or wondering about his lost love. Bashir knew practically nothing about Garak except that he liked Cardassian literature.

You can be close and not know a lot about each other. Friendships are complicated.
