Gaming Deals

For myself, as it was my birthday, I bought the pre-order Halo 5 Xbox One bundle - I get the console and the game. The console is a 1TB with 360 backward compability. As the console is not black, I am thrilled. A touch of color is always nice.

Elite Dangerous is on-sale on Steam for $27 this week. For those of you who don't know, Elite Dangerous is the most recent entry in the Elite series of spaceship trade/fight/exploration games from Frontier. It includes a procedurally generated 1:1 scale model of the Milky Way Galaxy including 400 billion stars that you can, theoretically, visit. I've been playing it off and on for nine months. I recommend it.

When do they announce the Black Friday console deals? I did read on a website the price point is expected to be $300 for XB1/PS4 consoles bundled with a game, but they don't know what games yet.

I'm wondering about that too. Wanted to get a new 3ds.

The websites I've looked at for $300 you'll get an 500GB XBox One with Gears of War Collection AND a second controller AND Fallout 4. Sounds good to me!

I'm someone who only plays like 5 games a year and I've never used the online services, though I guess I'll have to now. Do I need a 1TB console or 500GB fine?

If you don't take advantage of Games with Gold constantly and don't usually buy games digitally, 500 gig will be just fine.

But I'm warning you, if you have decent bandwidth, buying digitally is awesomely convenient. At this point, I'm even re-buying games digitally I already own physically because I'm starting to no longer be willing to switch fucking discs in 20-fucking-15.

So, 1 TB is definitely more sensible in that regard. Getting an external HDD is a viable option, of course. Switching the existing HDD can be done cheaper, but it voids your warranty and requires a modicum of experience/willingness to dabble with that sort of stuff.

I notice with some surprise that the PC Star Trek Legacy has appreciated in selling value of late, regularly fetching $10+ on ebay.
Perhaps being an initial bomb has made it harder to find years later. Someone can have mine pretty soon...

If anyone hasn't checked out the Humble Store's winter sale yet, now may be a good time.
Some of the deals that jumped out at me include the 2009 'Ghostbusters: The Video Game' for a quid seventy something, Valkyria Chronicles or about a fiver, Alien: Isolation for eight quid, every Relic WH40K game & expansion for a few quid each (plus the underrated 'Space Marine') and just about every game in the Squeenix catalogue including about every Tomb Raider, Hitman & Deus Ex title.

Oh and for the time being, they're giving away some random indie rogue-lite topdown TBS mech-combat game that I've never heard of. If you're into that sort of thing. ;)

But just like many of our UK Tv hero's from the 70s leaving court through a large angry mob, grab them before they are gone.

There is a nintendo humble bundle right now, you can a few 3ds and/or Wii U games for a decent price

Also, I got the pay what you want tier, but don't have a Wii U, so I'll put up two first come first serve codes for the Wii U games. They can be redeemed from the Nintendo eshop, but only work for people in the US
