Game Of Thrones Season 6 Discussion (Spoilers)

Once again there are reports that Benjen Stark will be back next episode, probably helping Bran and Meera. There were similar rumors for the last few episodes of 5th season (I thought for sure we would see him at Hardhome) but turned up to be false. Hopefully it happens this time. I like to see him back

Not surprising. We've been wanting Benjen to return ever since he disappeared. I'm still hoping for Coldhands=Benjen.

Coldhands is not Benjen. They can change that for the show of course.

Having shown us the creation of "Night's King" in the show, and that he somehow has powers similar to a greenseer, it could be that Coldhands is a similar creation of the Children. Whatever power or corruption that made him turn against the Children and into what he is never took hold with Coldhands though. Perhaps Night's King was a warg or greenseer to begin with and the Children didn't account for this. Could be Coldhands will be the next lore dump now that Bloodraven is gone and he could be ancient or he could be Benjen and serve the role just as well.

I don't recall anything from the books that explicitly states Coldhands can't be Benjen.

Nothing explicit, though one might expect Bran to recognize his uncle. This is one of those fan theories that really could go either way, as the books don't actually hint at Coldhands' past really at all beyond being a former Crow

The suggestion from the text itself is that Coldhands has been around for a "very long time."
More metatextual, there are notes on the manuscript where Martin's editor asked if Coldhands is Benjen and GRRM said no.

Ah, I did forget about that piece of information. It's been several years since I've the read books.

Still...I hope Benjen does finally return.

I really like what they're doing with Game of Thrones this season. They love to play with those emotional strings, and the latest Hodor sacrifice really got me.

Perhaps Sansa didn't say who her actual source is because she doesn't know whether or not anyone in that room are aware how untrustworthy Littlefinger can be with his machinations in general?

I think that Sansa has actually learned something. She knows that some cards need to be held close to the chest and she feels that she now has the upper hand on Littlefinger. I'm hoping that she actually becomes a serious player of the game and that she has other plans for the army.

Also, as mentioned earlier, it's interesting that the characters don't really know the full details of what is happening to each other. Can we assume that this is the first time she's learned that Tyrion married Sansa? Does this mean that Tyrion will be added to her list?

This has been really the best season of the series since the first, I think, and I can't wait for more.

I've been hoping for that since last season, and considering how she handled Littlefinger and took charge of the meeting with Jon Snow and his allies, I think she has already become a serious player in the game of thrones. I'm not sure if her father would be proud.

I've been watching an assortment of YouTube videos throughout the six seasons and I'm reminded how badly Cersei treated Sansa while she was in King's Landing. I hope Sansa returns there at some point and outmaneuvers Cersei (just like how almost everyone does). The look on Cersi's face will be worth it alone.

I thought the same thing. I'm pretty certain Arya never knew about Sansa's marriage to Tyrion. We haven't heard the list in awhile on the show, but in the books, she continued doing the list during her stay at the House of Black and White.

I should also mention that my theory about the structure of the books from the very beginning is to show the evolution of how those in the weakest positions can rise to power. I still believe this to be the case and it is being explored in various ways with the characters. By killing off the kings and the eldest sons, we see Jon, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Dany, and hopefully Sam at some point, growing and learning they have strengths that they never knew they had at the beginning of the story. I believe the same will hold true for the Greyjoy siblings now that they have sailed off (to the East most likely).

The series streamlines a lot of things from the novels, but this structure holds true in both.

Also, I think that by the end we will see at least the beginnings of the cycle as those characters become powerful but then have others who will rise up and take that power from them.

How this all plays out specifically in terms of the actual plot is anybody's guess at this point.

I do have a question regarding the "holy s**t" moments--didn't Shireen already die in the novels or am I confusing the novels and the series?

I just found the greatest thing ever and absolutely have to share it (so if it's already been mentioned, I apologize).

Back on May 6th, CNN actually covered the politics of Westeros as if the world of the series and the characters therein are real.

They might as well. They're generally making up the news these days anyways. :p

This made me think that maybe Night King also touched Benjen, and that may explain Benjen's disappearance. Night King touching Bran nullified the Cave magic while Bran was there. So if he touched Benjen he could similarly bypass the Wall magic if Benjen went back to the Wall. So Benjen decided to stay north of the wall.

"Now something else that's worth keeping an eye on, Jake, is the city of Meereen, over here across the Narrow Sea. Rumor has it that Daenerys Stormborn, the last member of the Targaryen dynasty which dominated politics in Westeros for centuries, is amassing a strong base of support with her sights set on reclaiming the Iron Throne this fall."

The politics of Westeros make more sense than the politics of the US right now.
