Game Of Thrones Season 5 TV Only Discussion (Spoilers)

Jon Snow remains one of the most idealistic of the protagonists - he deeply believes in doing the right thing, in protecting the vulnerable and he's repeatedly punished for it. Having him owe his resurrection to Melissandre and having her become a major character/ally in his story-line is about as delightfully perverse and dramatic a turn as the writers could come up with at this point.

If Winds of Winter comes out by the end of the year, or the start of next year (before S6 is released), that's when they'll likely own up to it. In fact, we may even find that GRRM's delay in getting out his next volume all this time may have been planned to coincide with this season all along. He won't be able to do that with the final book, obviously, but this prevents either the book or the show from generally spoiling one-another.

I highly doubt that Grrm or his publishers would delay the release of the book to coincide with the show.

HBO has said the GoT will be at least 8 Seasons long. I guess the producers plan to go only 7 Season has been changed by HBO's pressure for more seasons. Understandably, HBO doesn't want it's "golden goose" to end any time soon. I just wonder if at the end of Season 7 or 8 we'll see new show runners ...

But beyond the 7 season of GoT, it maybe something else. They are talking about doing the Dunk & Egg for beyond season 7 as a prequel.

I'd be happy with 7 seasons and a Robert's Rebellion miniseries. Don't really care either way if they adapt Dunk & Egg or not.

I kinda feel like two more seasons won't be enough considering how large The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring will likely end up being, but considering how much fat GoT trimmed off of A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons these past two seasons, it could be doable. Not surprised HBO wants eight, though.

I'd love to see a miniseries about Robert's Rebellion after GoT finishes, and the Dunk & Egg tales would be great candidates for like 90-minute TV movies or something. There are some other Westeros stories I think would make for interesting miniseries, too, like something focusing on a young Tywin Lannister and Aerys Targaryen, their friendship during the War of the Ninepenny Kings and then their falling out after the Defiance of Duskendale. And the Blackfyre Rebellion would be a great story to adapt, too, IMO.

I was surprised that they're still having to address the notion that there was something somehow remarkable and over the line for this series about the Sansa rape scene.

‘Game of Thrones’ Superfan Demands Trial by Combat in New York Supreme Court Case

Richard Luthmann contends that the practice has never been officially outlawed in the United States

Break out the chainmail and choose your champion!

A Staten Island lawyer has filed documents with the New York State Supreme Court demanding that he be allowed to settle a court case in a trial by combat in a story straight out of “Game of Thrones.”

Will it be telecast? Because I would so watch this.

Damn! Talk about something that fell through the cracks! Looks like they're invoking some ancient common-law clause. Bet they never saw that one coming! :guffaw:

Based on his recent record of unlikely success, this guy should name Donald Trump as his champion.

I'd be cool with season 7 telling the story of Robert's Rebellion and the events leading up to season 1. It would give the show enough to do but realistically i think it's impossible because they would have to build so many new sets, hire so many new central characters and i believe it would be difficult to keep the existing characters on contract and ask them to sit out an entire season and come back in a year to do season 8-10 to wrap the whole story.

Robert's Rebellion could easily be several seasons or miniseries events. I don't see why they would waste it on a one-off filler season when they could do a whole new show.

The upside and downside of course being that the events of the rebellion are much more straightforward once you remove the fog of time and their impact on the stories of the characters 14 years later. It free's the writers to need only to hit a few major plot points and go wherever else they like apart from them. However, we've seen that while this team may be able to pull off some very compelling scenes that don't exist in the books at times, their wholecloth plot inventions often leave a lot to be desired.

HBO has another decade of Game of Thrones material if they care to continue milking it, with Dunk and Egg miniseries and Robert's Rebellion as a series, and I don't see anything to suggest they won't.

In a SHOCKING twist that will surprise about five people, this was seen on the GoT Season 6 set the other day:

I saw that last night just before I went to bed and I got super excited. Not only because of the image itself, but because of what it might mean for the story going forward. :D

Note the oufit Jon is wearing, it looks exactly like the Stark colors that Ned, Jory Cassel and other Stark retainers wore throughout the first season. Maybe now that his death has released him from his vow to the Night's Watch, he's decided to drive the Boltons out and restore order to the North so that they can prepare for the true threat beyond the Wall.

It wouldn't surprise me if it were a flashback--we briefly saw a flashback last season after all.

Well, it's not like the books will be finished before the series. It isn't even a matter of trimming off fat, since they mostly have an outline of what GRRM plans, it's just about hitting the proper plot points and driving to the end. They can probably do that in another two seasons.
