Rate and discuss (with spoilers for the episode, but not for forthcoming episodes) "The Children", airing on the 15th June on HBO and on the 16th June on Sky Atlantic.
Powerful episode. Nearly every scene and every shot had a huge amount of strength in it. The exception was an over use of close ups in the fight scene with the Hound. Other than that this was such a stellar episode with so much happening it shames other shows.
Awesome episode! Went exactly how imagined it would go, so much good stuff. The fight between between the Hound and Brienne was fantastic and she ripped his ear off. Best fight in the entire show.

There were some really huge surprises for me in this episode as someone who hasn't read the books:
Stannis' army showing up north of the Wall was my biggest shock as I had thought he was on the other side of the continent and had absolutely nothing to do with that storyline!
The introduction of the Children was another huge surprise that alters the scope of the series. I really can't wait to learn more about them. I was most fascinated by the White Walkers dissolving when they entered the cave because the magic that animates them doesn't work here. Because it suggests there is a guiding power controlling them. An ultimate supernatural villain.
I was surprised that Tyrion killed his father, as I felt like Tywin was the supreme Lannister villain who would only become more important as the show went on.
The only thing I was spoiled on was the aforementioned zombie character. And I was crushed they didn't end the season on that. What a cliffhanger that would have been!!!
Now that this season is ended I went ahead and read the synopses of the next two published books. They sound terribly boring. It sounds like absolutely nothing interesting happens aside from the few things they already showed this season. My interest in this series was steadily growing this season and I was really getting into the show... but I don't think I'm going to care for the next two seasons at all now...
So yeah, I was predicting this would easily be the show's best season finale, and sure 'nuff...
Really appreciated the extra running time, as it gave a lot of the scenes room to breathe, which unfortunately doesn't happen a lot of the time on this show. If only they could've fit Stannis's arrival at the end of last week. Would've VASTLY improved that episode.
The wights were pretty fucking awesome. Take that, Walking Dead!
Brienne and Pod encountering The Hound and Arya was a major deviation, but it still got the latter two where they needed to be story-wise, and hey, we got the ear-biting as well!
My only major gripe was no Lady Stoneheart. I was so looking forward to seeing non-readers' reaction to that mind-fuck. *sigh* I guess Arya's departure from Westeros does make for a better ending though. And Balon Greyjoy STILL hasn't died, but I have a feeling they'll save that for early next season to get the whole *bleh* Ironborn storyline rolling.

Yeah, I'm kind of a little sad now, as I have a feeling this episode will end up being the show's high water mark. A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons never really reach the crazy highs of A Storm of Swords, unfortunately. I'm just hoping the show can somehow manage to improve on them.
There were a few great scenes in here, but overall, it felt a little uneven to me. Some parts seemed to be in a complete rush to set the table for next season, while others were totally devoid of urgency.
That said, I am looking forward to next season. Most of season four was excellent.

Everything was going so well, even the changes they made were mostly great, until Tyrion's sequence. Such a missed opportunity to give some proper weight to those last few scenes with his Brother and Father. It was a shadow of a shadow of Martin's version.
The old man got what he was owed imo.
