And Khal Drogo was a badass again. This episode and last week's have kind of got me looking forward to seeing how Momoa does as Conan later this year.

I left this episode thinking the same thing. He's displayed more acting chops in two episodes of GoT than he did during his entire SGA run. And I liked Ronon Dex, don't get me wrong. I think some of the people who have poo-pooh'ed his acting ability with regards to playing Conan might be pleasantly surprised.

Actually, I really liked his acting style as Ronon. Very at-ease and naturalistic. You couldn't help but like the guy.

Ronon also didn't really require much of a range from him . . . he was basically Big-Sulky-Gun-Dude the whole time

speaking of always seeming to be having fun, deep down . . . Tyrion . . . what a character!
Peter Dinklage is clearly the only possible choice for Tyrion. He's the only Lannister I like.

He makes every scene he's in enjoyable for the viewer.

I kind of find myself respecting Tywin though, maybe it's just Charles Dance.
In just two scenes, Dance has completely nailed for me one of the most imposing characters from the novels.

Really though it's easier to talk about who isn't working in this series than who is.

The amount of savvy casting choices and strong performances on this show is pretty high. I don't see pages of raving about, say, Iain Glen as Jorah Mormont - possibly because he's one of a billion characters and without any real 'big' scenes - but he's been very dependable in the role.

I know some people have a problem with him being a little younger than his book counterpart, but eh, I'm good with that.

Also, Maester Luwin isn't mentioned frequently and he's incredible.
Alliser Thorne on the show could make Gunnery Sergeant Hartmann cry and shiver in fear.
Osha is great.

Damn, there are just too many characters who, despite being onscreen for about 10 minutes on the entire show, make their roles unforgettable.

Yes, it's amazing how much of a difference better writing and direction can make for an actor, isn't it? ;)

I actually liked Ronon, too, but SGA was rarely ever challenging or compelling.

He is pretty much the same age as Mormont in the books, pushing 50. He's just much better looking than Mormont is supposed to be so he doesn't LOOK that old.
