Arya's first kill, huh.

King of disappointing that he didn't get to see Syrio use his broken wooden sword to slash the guy's throat. I'm betting he did so off-screen and he got away.

Don't get to see it for another two hours, but God, I love this series so far. I really need to read the other books, I never went past Game of Thrones.

Great stuff. Nice that things are really building up and getting to it now.
Poor Bean!

Wow this episode was off the chart awesome. From Syrio's dance with the lannister guards to the Khals's "dressing down" of his uppity minion. Just an outstanding episode.

Thought it was great. My only problem was how Arya's kill was portrayed. I'm guessing it was cut because they didn't want to show a child killing another child or whatever since it almost felt like an R rated scene that was chopped down to a PG.

Best one yet!!! First episode I can honestly say I had zero complaints about. Man, if only every episode could be written by Martin himself. Like I said with episode 3, I was once again amazed at how much they were able to squeeze into an hour here. Not a minute wasted.

-Loved seeing Syrio open a can of whoop-ass on (yet unnamed) Meryn Trant and his Lannister lackeys.

-Awesome shot of the "r-mails" being sent from Winterfell.

-Solid stuff at the Wall tonight. Othor! No casualties here apparently. Boy, Sam certainly a lot braver in the show. In the book he was squeamish as hell around the bodies.

-Great finally seeing the Dothraki in action, brutal though it was. When we first saw Drogo I kept wondering "where's his wound?" Ahh, a fight, here it comes... DAAANG, Drogo!

-Shagga, Son of Dolf n' pals, huzzah!

-Yet again, the show surprised me. Wasn't expecting we'd see the scene where Grey Wind (NAME THE DAMN WOLF ALREADY!) bites off Greatjon Umber's fingers. Although not really how I pictured the Greatjon, certainly not with grey hair.

-Hodor!

-"M'lord, we've captured Tom Cruise." Tell me I wasn't the only one thinking that.

-Barristan, you rule.

I'm sure there's other stuff I'm forgetting. There was just too much awesomeness here!

[EDIT]Oh yeah, the other thing I forgot mention, after complaining about Rickon being MIA last week, speak of the devil, he finally reappears here! And he speaks! Now if only they'd acknowledge Shaggydog's existance...

Really good stuff tonight. I enjoyed that, even though things backed off a bit from last week's cliffhanger, it didn't kill the story's momentum. My full review is here.

Not surprisingly, this episode was awesome!

- Maester Luwin is my favorite character in the TV series so far.

- Barristan rocks.

- Loved the scene with Septa Mordane facing the Lannister guards.

- Shagga and his pals are as ridiculously looking savages as I imagined them while reading the books. Special mention goes to Chella.

- Too bad Bolton wasn't mentioned, probably was shoved to the second season together with Blackfish.

- The Dothraki rape and pillage scene was brutal, as was Drogo tearing the tongue from that guy.

- Lysa and her son continue to be batshit insane and creepy.

- I wonder why no one thought of making Osha take a bath.

Only two more episodes left :(

SO...MUCH...AWESOME! :D Best episode yet.

Only weak spot in the chain was the Arya/Stableboy scene. Poorly acted by both, and the directing didn't do them any favor either.

I loved all the Robb stuff the most. Nice to see more of his character than the books showed until this point.

Another thing about this episode - I think it's the first time there were no boobs in the entire episode. Only Hodor's "hodor" filled the private parts' quota per episode ...

Yeah, but at least that was actually in the book. The opening scene in the last episode with Littlefinger was a little much (not to mention repetitive, since we already knew pretty much everything he'd revealed about himself in it).

This was yet another excellent episode. Again I find myself really impressed with (most of) the new scenes they've inserted to help flesh things out. Robb was actually pretty awesome in this episode, whereas in the book he never really struck me as a convincing leader of men. And the Greatjon was fantastic.

And Khal Drogo was a badass again. This episode and last week's have kind of got me looking forward to seeing how Momoa does as Conan later this year.

Great episode.

Two favorite moments of the night: When Robb gave the command to Maester Luwin to Call All the Banners, then seeing dozens of ravens flying from Winterfell. And when Cat spoke up regarding the spy, and Robb gave her this look of 'I know your my mother, but if you question me in front of my men again, I will lay the smack down'.

Awesome.

Simply incredible. If only Martin had enough time to write all the episodes without slowing down on the books.

I think this is by far Drogo's best episode. He may have come into his own last week, but that scene with Mogo had all the latent menace, iron warrior ethics and virile bloodletting I kind of associated with the character in the book.

Besides looking at him seated in glory hand resting on his arakh, I was immediately struck by the thought of what a good Conan the Barbarian he could make.

Wanted to point that out because while this was a very strong episode for Drogo, it had a lot of great material for a ton of characters, from Barristan to Tyrion. Definitely one of the top tier episodes of this series, even if that's a very competitive arena.

-Yet again, the show surprised me. Wasn't expecting we'd see the scene where Grey Wind (NAME THE DAMN WOLF ALREADY!) bites off Greatjon Umber's fingers. Although not really how I pictured the Greatjon, certainly not with grey hair.

Really? I got the impression Greatjon was a little older than Ned, even, but that's probably just a hunch. I think the series got Greatjon pretty solidly.

The episode certainly had his skill in juggling multiple characters and plot threads. The way he hit the note as to the unfolding news in multiple locations at once was a great start to the episode.

He was also pretty good at picking up details from the books that so far have been largely discarded from the series - like Rickon. I have to admit when he first appeared this episode my reaction was 'Wait, who is this kid?' It was nice for Rickon to get one of his rare moments of clarity from the books into the series, anyway.

And yes, the series hasn't been dealing with the direwolves much and I must admit to not caring a lot. I understand it's hard to shoot with animals and besides the occasional key material - like the death of Lady - the direwolves don't interest me a lot. Yes, they're symbolic of the house, but so was the stag Tywin was gutting last episode. We'll get our symbols, I'm sure.

As far as Bolton goes: We got Kevan Lannister, for those who didn't notice. People unfamiliar with the books, he was Tywin's lackey in the scene where Tyrion shows up to camp, and also Tywin's brother. As of last week Kevan Lannister was my mental pick for 'character who is sort of relevant to the books but I don't know if the series will bother with him', so that's something.

We even had a brief appearance by Janos Slynt, the commander of the city guard. Throwing in Bolton would pretty much amount to randomly name-dropping somebody in an episode kind of jam-packed with stuff happening. We may as well rattle off the Karstarks and Hornwoods while we're at it.

I've always pictured him more like this:

From Hibberd's EW recap:
Meanwhile Bran is in his room when all of a sudden some child just wanders into our scene and started talking to him. This is the youngest Stark kid, Rickon, who I noted in my first Thrones recap is "like the Maggie Simpson of the Starks." Suddenly Rickon takes out his pacifier and spouts ominous pessimism about Robb's chances, as if he knows anything. Dude, go back to starring in Tiny Starks or Winterfells whatever TV show you're in and let the grown-ups handle this. We're in Thrones Episode 8, it's too late to pretend you're part of our plot.
:guffaw:
