Spoilers Game Of Thrones’ Spinoff ‘House Of The Dragons’ ordered to series

  • Thread starter Enterprise is Great
  • Start date
Remember how the Fantastic Beasts series was announced to last five movies? Or a fifth season of Westworld? Or a fourth season of GLOW? Or... etc.

Or, heck, remember when the US government made a rule presidents could only be elected twice?

Just because a plan may not have changed from earlier announcements doesn't mean there isn't value in restating the plan from time to time.
Don't forget the fabled fifth season of Farscape!

THR has a very candid interview with GRRM, which makes it clear that there’s been a fair bit of drama (if not quite fire and blood) behind the scenes too:

This is why I like the Dunk & Egg books so much...
“At the end of the day, we are Game of Thrones without all the stuff,” Parker says. “We have one of the ingredients — two unusual characters like Arya and the Hound, or Brienne and Podrick — who are paired together and having conversions. I hope that’s what [made Thrones work]. It’s a big part of what it was for me.”

So...when is the next season of Dunk and Egg?

A June 21st premiere means that I've got to 'double up' on my rewatch for a week, but I'm getting super excited to be back in this story with new adventures.

Am I missing a thread or has no one posted about the season three opener yet?

Thought it was a great start to the season. Yeah, we all know they cut off two episodes from the end of season 2 and this is how that season should have ended. But it still worked very well as a season opener and set up a ton of stuff.

We got the big battle scene we were waiting for and it look amazing. So many burning ships and dead sailors, and a very satisfying amount of dragons. The stuff with Rhaena last season was weird and I wasn't sure where it was going at all, but it paid off here. Don't take an untrained dragon into battle!

I was a bit surprised the pirate lady died already but it was a great fight with the Sea Snake and Alyn.

I liked Alys just declaring "I'm a witch" and the common dragonrides being like "yeah, fuck this" and leaving. Some nice humour there and with Larys earlier, it's appreciated.

I think they hinted at Aemond having weird feelings for his mother last season, but that was still a pretty gross surprise when he kissed her.

Alicent's brother seems like a decent guy, so he'll probably die soon.

Having Rhaenyra quote Queen Elizabeth I was a bit distracting, not sure why they put that in. But I that was about the only problem I had.

This is the only thread...and the lack of responses should be telling. ;)

As for me, I just happened to watch the episode and....well...eh.

Granted it's been awhile since season two but I couldn't remember half the characters, where their loyalties lay, what their histories are, or even their names. Mind you, I know some of them are new like Tommy Flanagan and Joplin Sibtain (Brasso on Andor!) but it's a bad case of too many characters. Yes, Game of Thrones had a ton of characters, too, but I feel like that show had a rich cast of fascinating characters while this show is full of assholes I still don't care about.

I keep returning mostly for Matt Smith and Sonoya Mizuno but they barely had anything to do in this episode. Honestly, the only character I found engaging in this particular episode was Rhaena...and, oof, that was a heartbreaking sequence at the end.

Otherwise, it was an endless slog of fighting (the sea sequences at least stood out well enough) and I just didn't care who lived or died.

Wait, really? I never heard that.

The bits with Alys and Larys were fun, I agree, but they were fleeting.

I...actually joked to myself that they looked like they were going to kiss but I didn't actually expect it to happen.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised with this particular world. Just a pity Aemond didn't also kill his father.

After that VFX spectacle, I’m expecting the rest of the season to be mostly bottle episodes.

I enjoyed it for the visual splendor and epic-ness, but I’m not feeling invested in any of the characters.

When Jace died, I very flatly and insincerely uttered "oh, no". We wanted that smug little shit dead right, or am I meant to be sad?

Miranda Richardson did a far better job.
