Spoilers Game Of Thrones’ Spinoff ‘House Of The Dragons’ ordered to series

Ramin Djawadi has explained why they decided to reuse the Game of Thrones theme for this show:

“We decided to stick with that theme because Game Of Thrones had been off air for three years, and it was decided that we really wanted to tie the shows together. Because even though it’s all-new characters and it’s set hundreds of years before, we felt like it needed that stamp to say ‘This is Game Of Thrones—it’s in a different time, but it’s Game Of Thrones,’” composer Ramin Djawadi explains in an interview with The A.V. Club’s own Hattie Lindert. “We felt like the opening really ties it all together. Even in the first episode, I wrote new pieces, but thematically, you hear the King’s Landing theme, you hear the dragon theme, so it’s very much calling back to the known themes to set the tone again. But then we depart, and as we get to know all the characters, there are new themes. I wrote so much music for the season.”
Honestly, I think that's weak reasoning. Oh, well.

Personally, I don't care. I'm happy with the continuation of the theme song.

I think the HotD opener has the blood effects in the wrong order. At the beginning, it should have started out with the model of Old Valyria filled with blood, but as the credits progress, the blood slowly drains and thins out until, by the end, all that's left is a bare trickle, signifying the diminishing strength of the Targaryen bloodline.

I suppose that's a question of what the blood represents. Does it represent the relative strength of House Targaryen, or does it represent the violence that is about to be inflicted upon the people of Westeros by this House Targaryen civil war that's breaking out?

My guess is it's meant to represent the latter. But I think the reverse would have been more thematically interesting.

White hair kids wearing green. They’re bloody Malfoys.
I enjoyed it. The new girls did a fine job. Nice to see Art3mis again. Maybe that is her playing that role within the OASIS. :)

Ser Criston really gets his ultimate revenge.

Rhaenerya is good but whoever is playing Alicent was a remarkable piece of casting.

He gets his revenge for being an idiot who couldn't keep it in his pants? And who later tried to hide his own lapse of judgment with a marriage proposal . . . and failed?

The actress now portraying Rhaenerya is Emma D'Arcy and the actress portraying Alicent is Olivia Cooke.

Another cracker. It was a risky move to acclimate us to two very talented cast members before recasting mid-season, but I think the adjustment will be made easily enough. While D'Arcy was great, I think Cooke was the real standout this episode.

Great scene with Larys Strong and The Queen at the end. What a conniving, cold blooded shite he is. Love it.

Don't know the book or how far we are from The Dance, but I'll say again - I don't mind the time jumps, but I hope they're a short-term measure to set the foundation for the main event, rather than remaining standard for the whole series.

I dunno, the show is still not grabbing me (yet here I am on episode 6). I just keep waiting for something big to happen rather than jumps in time. I feel kinda sorry for the regular audience who must be confused or annoyed that the past 5 episodes were mostly for nothing and they must now reinvest in what is essentially a restart of the show (with little changes thematically).

I love the irony of people on a Trek board complaining about reuse of music after TMP and TNG. ;)
Who here watched TMP and thought "Hey! They're reusing the theme from TNG!"

Follies and fouls of Rhaenyra. Let us count the ways.

Sleeping with a Kingsguard and losing her virtue before she's married. This would normally get a Kingsguard gelded and sent to the Wall. Bedding the princess is treason. Criston should've been put to death. This should have disinherited Rhaenyra from the succession. But because Viserys believes it was his brother and not a Kingsguard, he overlooks it.

Blowing off her suitors and being rude in another lord's castle (Storm's End/Baratheon), while meeting lords from the Riverlands (whose liege lords are the Tully's). This wasn't just about finding a husband, but also a meet and greet to the major houses in Westeros. Rhaenyra needed to charm and win these lords support if she is going to ascend the throne. Being a woman already puts her at a disadvantage. The fact that Viserys made the lords at court swear oath to Rhaenyra against their will, was another strike against her. When Rhaenyra laughs and jests at Jerrel Bracken's mocking insults to Willem Blackwood; while Willem is making a serious marriage proposal to the princess. When the duel between the Bracken and Blackwood starts, Rhaenyra just walks away and doesn't try to stop the violence. It certainly didn't endear her to the lords of the Riverlands or lord Baratheon. There are many houses who hold grudges and feuds against one another. If the future monarch can't be bothered to quell the violence among just two. Why should any lord support her?

Getting married and having 3 bastard children is a colossal error. In the books, Laenor isn't black, but he does have that white/silver blonde hair. It's obvious to everyone in the Red Keep and at court who the father of Rhaenyra's children are. Once again, Rhaenrya doesn't care because her daddy is king. Rhaenyra likely figured once she is queen, she can legitimize all her sons and put an end to any issue. What should have happened was Rhaenyra should've been exiled, along with her 3 children and Ser Strong put to death. Once again, Viserys chose not to do anything about it.

Visery's motive for stubbornly not removing Rhaenyra as heir is out of guilt for killing her mother. Rhaenyra is the last thing the king has of his late wife, Aemma. He wants to honor the memory of his wife and ensure Rhaenyra has something worthy. But Rhaenyra hasn't been acting like a lady, let alone a princess for more than a decade.

Eh? How are the past 5 episodes in any way mostly for nothing?

I could see the argument that the first five episodes were more or less "prologue" which isn't really needed to explain where the characters ended up. Like, episode 6 as the cold open of a series almost works.

Still, this ENTIRELY MISUNDERSTANDS the purpose of storytelling. Good storytelling isn't about where you end up, it's about making the character journeys along the way compelling.

I'm quite certain that the main event will not include major time jumps. And the series is still several years away from the actual civil war.

Why do you believe everyone else feels the same as you?

Aaaand i'm done.

I sure enjoy good drama, even a slow buildup, characters being created and acting out their plans but this one just fails for me. It's been 6 episodes and barely anything happened, i don't find any of the characters intriguing or even interesting and after 6 episodes i couldn't care less about the incoming family / civil war.

To everybody who does enjoy the show more power to you, i'm out.

What a difference to see Daemon as husband, father, and cynic! And Lady Laena - a real shame to lose her character but damn!

Both Ser Criston and the Queen have become bitter and nasty. Still, even Alicent didn't realize what a psycho Larys is.

I agree with @M.A.C.O. that Rhaenyra has been deeply stupid.

So, are we expected to root for Team Green?
