Galaxy Quest vs TREK

Why, oh why are people putting Generations above First Contact?

GalaxyQuest could've bombed in so many ways but it didn't. I love the movie and I hope that Shatner himself watched it and maybe learned a thing or two from it.

There is no 'versus' here. Galaxy Quest is a great movie, complimentary to Trek. It goes where the franchise itself could not go.

He did watch it, and joke about it.

William Shatner said:
I thought it was very funny, and I thought the audience that they portrayed was totally real, but the actors that they were pretending to be were totally unrecognizable. Certainly I don't know what Tim Allen was doing. He seemed to be the head of a group of actors and for the life of me I was trying to understand who he was imitating. The only one I recognized was the girl playing Nichelle Nichols.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaxy_Quest#cite_note-8

He's also become friends with Tim Allen.

Come on, people. Galaxy Quest is at least better than GENERATIONS.

Can't believe people actually find the two equal in any way...

IMO, odd number curse still applies if you countGalaxy Quest and put it between Insuresction and Nemesis. I thought it was amusing on the XI commentary that they admitted that the Transporter scene was a shout out to GQ.

Galaxy Quest is better than every Trek movie save I, II, XI and maybe FC. (Imao.)

Galaxy Quest is one of the three best Trek films made - the other two being TWOK and the Abrams version.
I agree with both of you. I always list Galaxy Quest as one of the Trek films. It fits in really well. GQ dares to laugh at and with Trek and its fans without being disrespectful to either.:techman:

Galaxy Quest isn't a Trek film. It is a parody of the behind the scenes and fandom of the show, loosely based on a Joan Winston short story. That's where the similarities end. Comparing this to other Trek films and insisiting such is like comparing apples to a couch.

Here's my take: I loved GQ, and it's in my top 4 movies:

1. Undiscovered Country
2. TMP: DC
3. TFF
4. GQ
5. FC

The others are ok. Generations and Nemesis would be so far down you'd need a parachute to land in that region safely.

Don't be so sure. George Takei thought it was close enough to Trek to laugh like a fiend when he saw it...
