Gala premieres

those pics are brilliant can you remember what the premiere was like?

Of course!

The State Theatre is an opulent art deco theatre and it made for a very exciting atmosphere. Only a short while before, we'd been there in Star Trek costume to welcome back "Star Trek: The Original Series" to TV (for the first time the whole series in colour!)

Now we gathered again for the eagerly-awaited ST II. Luckily, I found a single advance issue of Starlog's "ST II Magazine" and we were able to use the photos in that to replicate the costumes. Then some of us received invitations to a Saturday morning preview, and my circle of close friends and I were able to tweak our new Starfleet outfits to be more accurate on the next Wednesday night. (Our insignias were made of cardboard and plastic ice cream containers; I ended up making my own logo for my own ship.) The whole cinema was booked out and 200 of us in a group booking were in SF costume.
