future uniforms

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral
Admiral
in the episodes that feature the future, the uniforms are so bad it's distracting. I mean they look clothes an old person would wear, where the pants come up past the navel. I don't know what the creators were thinking but I guess they wanted to make sure we knew the characters had gotten older, but there's no reason Starfleet would design uniforms like that for everyone.
It's distr4acting in every episode they are featured in. Only "All Good Things" and almost "The Visitor" makes me dismiss it. I love the "Visitor" and I love the future how' it's depicted on a general scale but the whole thing about "rounding up the whole crew and pulling the ship out of mothballs" has little to imagination to it, and then seeing everybody look so old and trying to work the controls in those gawdawful uniforms (seeing Nog too, trying to speak with a deep voice) make this episode three and a half stars instead of four for me. The uniforms really did have a negative impact for me

I like the future possible uniforms but I liked the current ones more. Mabye they won't use those new ones very long, probalby just 10 years and then change to a new one.

I'm always amused by the notion that Starfleet in the future always uses the communicator pin that Riker imagined in "Future Imperfect". I wonder if he submitted it for a "Design the New Starfleet Emblem" contest or something? :)

they used the AGT one (hollow arrowhead with 2 vertical bars) 3 times for future scenes after AGT: The Visitor, Timeless (worn with FC style grey and black unis) and Endgame...

I think they should make everybody wear spandex and highheels, as Blalock and Ryan had to do, even in fight scenes...

Duh. That's right. I'm getting the AGT insignia in my head and applying it to Future Imperfect...been too long since I saw either episode! I stand corrected... :)

^ Well, it was used in Parallels too, so I can see how you might've made that mistake.

Given that the only times we've seen these uniforms have been in aborted futures, maybe the design never comes to pass. The universe has ended its existence on at least three occasions now.

Maybe they'll go straight from the FC black/grey straight to Braxton's delightful bus seat cover design...

I dunno. I think it's a safe assumption that the high waist uniform will be the next uniform after the FC uni considering how the 3 universes that were aborted or altered had no connection to each other. Q made one up, Sisko disappeared in one and Voyager took longer to get home.

Sisko staying around forever or an inconsequential starship being away from home for only 7 instead of 25 years don't seem like plausible excuses to keep the FC uniform. Also, keep in mind that by the time the new uniforms would be in use, the FC uniforms would've been authorized for almost 20 years with the same "shoulder color opposite division color" look for around 20 years before that.

I think the future uniform designs are just awful. Nothing works, from the fabric (which looks like it should be used to make window dressings) to the collar to the high-waisted pants. I also dislike the fact that the uniform tops are completely red/yellow/blue. They're just too bright. One thing I love about the current 24th century uniform is how the departmental colors are on the turtleneck, and the rest of the uniform is gray and black. Much classier.

Agreed. Although I don't like the material used in the FC uniforms, I do like the look. The colored undershirt looks unbearably hot, as does the grey shoulder material.
I'm not a big fan of the Voyager one-piece overalls, but the material was lightweight and appeared comfortable for daily use. :vulcan:

I like the TOS pilot uniforms, however I think if they incorporated black cargo pants it would've been a bit more functional.

Starfleet does tend to change their uniforms like some change their underwear.

hehe

The uniforms from Star Trek 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 lasted for 72 years (2278-2350) though. I guess it just depends how long they want to stick with that design before changing to something new.

2351-2365 was for the TNG season 1 & 2 duty uniforms
2366-2373 : TNG season 3-7, Generation...and the mark 2 duty uniforms (DS9)
2373-present: current duty uniforms

The future ones are alright but yeah I do prefer the ranks to be on the collar part because you can see them clearly and the same goes for the current uniforms that are being used now.
