Future of Paramount+ among merger talks

Flaming
šŸ˜‚. Sorry. But it's true. The last 3 years since Ai things have moved extremely fast. Before that streaming began to go mainstream about 12 years ago. Both these things have turned the industry on their head. I can totally see the big studios producing a lot of Ai only content eventually. Some People still complain about CGI.....Ai will make people look back on it fondly. CGI was a tool that still took creativity. Ai will take a lot of that creativity away eventually.

I'm not saying that good content won't be created but the days of rushing out with friends on that first day of a big release are essentially over. (Though legacy franchise like Scream still pulls in decent numbers)

I think the last time I had to wait in line to see a movie or buy the ticket in advance before sellout was The Force Awakens. Which makes sense because that was right around when Streaming was almost finished cementing itself into most homes..

I can't think of the last TV show that was on the lips of a good majority of friends and coworkers. Maybe Game of Thrones?? Idk.

Now people get a streaming service for a show or two. Apple for Example Severance and Shrinking.

Hollywood also produces at least twice the content that they did just before streaming took hold. Further spreading out what people watch..the market is literally saturated with new material.
Invested way too much in visual entertainment. So you and your ā€œfriendsā€ will no longer waltz over to a theater for a movie premiere. (And it’s always ā€œthe moviesā€ for you and your ilk, never ā€œcinemaā€.) So what? Find a better way to fulfill yourself.

Gee, this new megacorp will be leveraged to the tits and saddled with 100 billion in debt.

That new Star Trek movie they're definitely making is gonna have to Make. Bank.
More likely there won’t be one. Trek movies don’t make a lot of money anyway.

Star Trek has immediately become significantly less important to Paramount.

A shame, but not really unexpected. So much for the vaunted 60th anniversary. Shadows of the 50th, really... Rinse and repeat.

Hey, maybe we'll get another re-release of the classic movies on BRD.

I'll see myself out... :ouch:

"Ilk?" I already gave you a notification about getting too personal. You've earned a Warning for Flaming. Please familiarize yourself with the board rules and restrict any comments about this Warning to private message.

What??? šŸ˜‚ I'm just saying. The Entertainment industry is in a state of a huge shift right now and I don't think it's for the better. The best days of CINEMA are behind us now imo. Comedies and dramas have mostly been delegated to streaming. Usually it's mostly big budget films at the CINEMA.

As for the issue of fulfilling myself with other activities. I already do. But I don't know what that has to do with anything. šŸ˜

There are some good ways to celebrate the 60th. I should get my Tomy Klingon D7 by the end of the year and the Tomy Motion Picture Enterprise is coming soon. I'm sure Paramount will have something. Probably nothing to spectacular though.

I dunno ... if they ditch what they have in the pipeline with the D&D guys and ... just hear me out:

STAR TREK LEGACY: THE MOVIE

Outta the way, Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.

2 billion down, 98 billion to go. Easy!

"Our combined company will be home to many of the greatest, most recognizable and beloved franchises in the world, from Harry Potter to Top Gun, Star Trek to Looney Tunes, Game of Thrones to Yellowstone". David Ellison

Trek got a specific shout out.

It did get a shout out, but whereas previously it was one of a handful of franchises Paramount owned, now it's part of a much larger field. And theatrically, Star Trek has simply not been able to compete with the bigger boys.

But I could be wrong, perhaps they'll invest a lot and seriously try to make Star Trek a profitable film franchise.

Star Trek has been living in its own isolated bubble for quite some time. In the US, unless you had Paramount+ (or CBS All Access before that), Trek ended with the general public either with Star Trek Beyond or possibly even the last episode of ENT.

Although most talk has been focused on streaming, Paramount will own quite a few new linear cable channels now. Yes, there's cord-cutting left, right, and center, but cable still remains a profitable industry (for now). Paramount may want to think about putting some Trek shows back on traditional TV (i.e. cable), even if its just reedited reruns of DIS, PIC, and so on. At most, it may get Trek out of the aforementioned bubble.
