FUTURAMA: Rebirth

So, how did you like it?

I'm disappointed they didn't reference in passing the babies that Kif and Amy (and Leela) had. You'd think it'd be relevant to them breaking up... My fav parts were Will Riker's Island and the Nixon/Obama poster.

I guess I'm not getting what you're saying, sorry. I hate to ask you to elaborate though on something that's likely such a non-issue haha. If Takei is not a reference to Trek, then I humbly stand corrected.

That being said, I haven't seen TOS in a long while, and it is towards the top of my to do list. ;)

I don't consider Takei to be a reference to Star Trek. After all he's an actual person :)

It's not like he was talking about Trek, even though he did mention that deadbeat Shatner.

On the other hand you apparently missed the 'interracial couple':

I don't like these issue episodes, I don't like it when they feel the need to push their agenda like this.

My opinion, I know pretty much everyone here is going to disagree with my post and debate my opinion. I'm not going to debate it, just stating that I dislike them taking on issues like this and pushing their own agenda, which is clearly in support of gay marriage and such.

I find it odd it's a 180 degree turn from "I Dated a Robot", where everyone except Fry was opposed to his Lucy Liu Bot. (Then of course, Bender and Lucy Liu's head hypocritically fall for each other.)

Actually, that brings "Rebirth" to mind, too. They were okay with Fry making a Leela robot before they knew that particular Fry was a robot, too.

Shit, it's only a t.v. show, I suppose.

It seems to me that this episode was also part-parody of issue episodes as well. I mean, you can't get much more heavy-handed than "robosexual." Rather, while it makes the case for same sex marriage, it played up stereotypes and even the general arc of issue episodes -- notice that at the end, Kif and Amy get back together, nullifying the events of the episode for the main characters (but not for everyone else around them), which happens in any sitcom's issue episode. Notice how Full House had an issue episode every week, but they never discussed the ramifications the next week?

which is clearly in support of gay marriage and such.
Well, duh :)

Well, let's remember that the only one of the main cast who was against Amy and Bender was the Professor. And he's the Professor! Not exactly the most sensible of the bunch :)

Will Riker's Island was shown in an earlier Futurama episode. I think it might have been the one where Bender becomes Santa.

Ahhh well thanks for taking the time to explain that out. Very interesting indeed. Consider me enlightened. :)

Really? I have all the DVD's, so I guess it's just been awhile, and I forgot about that one. The old memory isn't what it used to be.

Another great episode (with a nice message, even), as long as you don't stop to wonder why every other type of relationship, no matter how unlikely, is accepted while robosexuality is not. Or why Bender allowed himself to be dragged away by the religious nutbots. :D

Sadly, 100% plausible.

Or why Bender allowed himself to be dragged away by the religious nutbots. :D
Probably for the sacramental wine. ;)

I suppose it is, people being as bizarre as they are, but the horse-ghost thing made me wonder what it is about Robosexuality that gets everyone so bent out of shape.

Or those sex toys. :D

^^ They explained hatred for robosexuality in the Lucy Liu-bot episode. That informational video about how the boy gets a Marilyn Monroe-bot and does nothing in the real world just "making out" with the bot all day... and then civilization was destroyed. If everybody just had a sex bot, society would fall apart because no-one would have to interact with anyone anymore.

While I don't care for issue eps as well, I too found it very odd characters switch sides. Is it a satire about how quickly and frequently people change their views on issues at the drop of a hat?
I've seen people do it and it's :wtf::vulcan:.

Oh, okay, I didn't remember that. At least there's an explanation. :rommie:

OH.MY.GOD.

That horse and ghost joke -- I haven't laughed that hard at anything in months. Then, to make things even better, they show them again and the ghost makes a generic "OoOOoOooO" sound. I'm convinced Futurama has returned to form at this point.

I think the difference between this and I Dated a Robot is that Fry's Liubot was programmed to love him so in that sense she was just a sex toy that did nothing to contribute to society except to take Fry out of it; Bender has a 'real' personality, he chose to be with Amy.

Fry can get his Lucy Liu robot back. Except she was destroyed (IIRC, everyone was opposed to Fry robosexual relationship then.)
Yeah, Proposition Infinity is basically the anti-I Dated A Robot. I appreciate the moral but the about-face felt really forced.

All the visual gags in this one were great though.

You do realize that this episode was made like 8 years later, that in the show's universe it was 4-5-6 years later, and that it's just a show?
