Futurama Fan Film -- Wow!

Wonderful! On a technical level, these people pulled off some amazing effects for a fan budget (whatever it may be). The story was silly (which is fine), the acting was decent, and the characters seemed on point. I thoroughly enjoyed it. :D

Sure, from a technical/FX standpoint, it was amazing, and the acting was surprisingly competent for a fan film (although I haven't seen many fan films so maybe that's not a fair generalization), and it's just great to see Futurama's world and characters rendered in live action. But that makes me wish the script could've been on the same level. Like, I wish Groening and Cohen and the rest would hire these guys to collaborate with them on an official, live-action Futurama special for Netflix or something, written by the show's staff and produced and performed by these folks (although with the original actors dubbing the voices of the nonhuman characters, at least). I doubt it would ever happen, but it'd be cool to see.

I don't think it was bad. It wasn't excellent either, but it was watchable. I've seen every episode of the original series and I can certainly say this plot is on par, so far they shot, with the lesser big-scope episodes. Some of the lines in there I could easily imagine being heard in the real series.

However Amy and Brannigan need re-casting. Brannigan doesn't even look right and the actress playing Amy not only doesn't sound right but it's like she didn't even try to deliver lines like the series character -- which others did.

I'd also crowd fund to get Christopher Tyng to do the music.

I wasn't sure if the music being off was a copyright avoidance issue, perhaps.

The casting for Brannigan was genius, imo, considering the circle of parody. It would have been like the real show getting Shatner to voice him.... :D

No doubt, which is also why they called it Fan-o-Rama instead of Futurama. Although technically they don't have a license to use any of these characters or concepts, so I'm not sure why it matters. Plenty of Trek fan films use actual Trek music.

I thought the performer's name was familiar. I take it he's someone who played Kirk in Trek fan films? I guess that explains why he was brown-haired instead of blond.

By the way, I'm disappointed we didn't get to see an animatronic Kif.

This is a joke right?

I figured someone else would have commented on the circle of parody, that the futurama fan film uses Vic to play Zap who is a Shatner parody, when Vic's hobby is impersonating Shatner so to speak, already.

Why would it be a joke? I don't watch fan films. Never read much fan fiction either; I've always preferred the professional stuff. I've heard the names of various productions and performers of fan films bandied about, but it's never been something I've followed with any great interest.

^ OK, let's just say he plays Captain Kirk in the most popular fan film series (Star Trek Continues) currently going, and leave it at that.

I've watched so many fan films by this point, I see him and I just see Kirk in his face.... realizing he was in this fan film was an energetic highlight for me, until I realized it wasn't just a cutaway to Zap, before returning to the action. I would have enjoyed seeing him chew scenery as Zap, actually playing an antagonistic role in this movie. He was fantastic as Mirror Kirk.
