Funny, odd, amazing things in the ST Comics

Who is "they"?

Jackson Lanzing, a writer for the series, for one:

Jackson Lanzing said:
Now we know that there will be, so we are trying to create new canon that exists inside that space. But these are the characters you know. This is the canonical Benjamin Sisko sequel story. This is the last ride of Data before Nemesis. These are those stories. This is what happened to Tom Paris after he came back from Voyager.

Wow....Sisko with Data, Beverly Crusher, Tom Paris, and some new 'omnipotent' aliens....had to order this.

I had completely forgotten that Mark Buckingham (Miracleman, Fables) had drawn a Star Trek story for Marvel. :)

Looking at the issue now, I see Jodie Whittaker as Commodore Foley, and the thought of the thirteenth Doctor delivering orders to Kirk and Spock was hilarious to me.

And Ron Randall, in the same issue (Star Trek Unlimited #4) draws a rather sexy Leah Brahms. The two pages where she's in the original series one-piece skirt... well, as Sulu might say (and does, in the Starfleet Command video game), "Oh, my."

@NCC-73515, I really wish you'd give the issue numbers these stories appear in and the credit to the creators involved when you post excerpts from them. These things don't just spontaneously spring into being fully formed. They are created by writers, artists, editors, letterers, and colorists who work hard on them, and they deserve to be acknowledged.

Giving the publishers and issue numbers would also make it a lot easier for people to track down these stories if they'd like to read them in full.

This story is from Malibu Comics' Star Trek: Deep Space Nine #14, written by Michael A. Martin and Andy Mangles and illustrated by Terry Pallot and Al Milgrom.

I haven't read this story, but I'm guessing it's from Star Trek: Unlimited #10, also written by Michael A. Martin and Andy Mangels and illustrated by Ron Randall and Art Nichols. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

TMP vs WOK uniforms
The alien grays and the panel with McCoy complaining about the TWOK uniforms are from Marvel's Star Trek: Untold Voyages #5, written by my friend Glenn Greenberg, illustrated by Mike Collins and Keith Williams. I believe the panels with the Klingons are from the first issue and the panel with the crystalline formation is from the third, maybe?

I highly recommend this entire miniseries, BTW. Each issue takes place in a different year of the second five-year mission following TMP.

No idea on this one. Can you provide the info?

Those last two are from Marvel's Voyager comic, the first one from issue 3 (Laurie Sutton & Jesus Redondo)
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_Voyager_Vol_1_3 , the second one from issue 1 (same creative team)

Edit: Minor correction here, that's Marvel/Paramount, not Malibu.

I absolutely understand, but since I take screenshots of anything funny or interesting while I read, and then post them after I have a bulk of new ones, I often don't remember which exact issue/story they were from. I can go back and find out since I read them chronologically, but I figured if someone gets curious (the intended effect!) they'll ask about those they wanna read, and other people who have a much better memory of these can tell them faster than I could go back through them and figure it out.

People post screencaps, concept art, BTS pictures, of all the old live action stuff all the time, here and on all social media, and never credit the actors, set/costume/prop designers, writers, directors, etc. with explicit acknowledgments, probably because while everyone knows that they created what is shown, it requires more research work than just posting a picture. I've only seen such credits in articles for new episodes and movies that are about to be released, probably because P+/CBS requires those exact captions under preview pictures. So yes, that should be the standard, but it never caught on.

Then I'd recommend scrolling back a few pages when you find something cool and also taking a quick screenshot of the credits for the issue. That way you'll always have it handy.

Most people here don't have to be reminded who played Mr. Spock, or even who wrote or directed a particular episode. The same is not true of Star Trek comics.

At least in this comic it gets to fly - would've preferred to see it in live action instead or in addition to the delta flyer

The Cage gets a direct prequel showing what made Pike so miserable and what happened on Rigel with the Kaylar, who are warriors made by the government before reforms towards peace, like the Angosian supersoldiers in TNG The Hunted...

Ah, so THATS what that Roddenberry Archive clip with the TOS Enterprise was about! I knew many scenes were based on comic books but missed that reference.

When you make some incredible special effects, and then completely mess up the typeface.

Typography matters, people!

Actually, now that I've seen the panel in-context, I'm wondering if that might be a deliberate sign of an alternate future, like the Enterprise was put into a museum rather than being refit, but it did get updated pennants before being retired (though the markings don't quite match the movie-era, either). There was a TOS-style Connie in Ships of the Starfleet like that, it got minimal upgrades but the new graphic design for the stripes and registry.

Or maybe the same mysterious person who vetoed Discovery using TOS-style fonts at the last second has struck again. ;)
