Funeral for a friend

I dont care what SPOCK says or what JJ says...oldTREK is dead, and we are in a new era. I don't believe in alternate timelines...oldTREK (from TOS to VOY) is dead forever..
You're a bit confused. Kirk and Spock is old Trek. Voyager and Enterprise is poopy new Trek.

I'm glad we're going back to old Trek.

I'll also be extremely happy if the next Trek film in some way completely contradicts important aspects of the Trek spin-offs in a way that can't be explained by Nero's time travel.

Well I am almost positive that though I enjoyed the new film, there is no way it will ever achieve the iconic status of TOS. Let alone equal it. I think it is safe to assume that both timelines will survive and be remembered.

There is room for both. This is the silliest topic I've seen about the new film so far. I wont miss any character because they are all on DvD still, as always waiting for me to pop them in and view them.

Re: Trout for a friend

The original timeline will still exist in Trek novels. So I don't see the big problem here.

I guess Paramount will have to acknowledge the new reality and either cancel all the upcoming novels or rebadge them as fiction rather than "historical documents." ;)

Old Trek is not dead. Period. The key word is *alternate.* We just happen to be watching events in an alternate timeline these days. That's all.

Berman's version of Star Trek is dead, but it has been dead for a while now. Roddenberry's Star Trek has been revitalized. I don't see the problem.

I wouldn't go that far. This is JJ Abrams's Star Trek. But it's closer in spirit to Gene Roddenberry's Trek than any Berman production.

What I not-so-secretly really want is Gene Coon's Trek!
