Full Circle Review Thread (Spoilers)

Popping in here to say a few things regarding Full Circle.

Ever since the full scope of the novel was announced (back last July if I recall) I'd been eagerly anticipating it. The controversy regarding Janeway made me all the more excited to read the novel. I'm a completist, so I was always going to buy it. But this became one of those books I'd check the bookstore for every day as it started appearing. Never thought that would happen for a Voyager novel, but here we are.

I'm pleased to say that it was so good that I finished the whole 500+ page book in less than 24 hours. I read the last 350-400 pages in one sitting. It was incredible, and I'm really looking forward to Unworthy.

I also finished it yesterday, could hardly put it down the last days....
It' not only the thickest book since "Provenance of Shadows" (My all-time-favourite), it's also the best one since then.
So much drama and emotion combined with a really good story, sometimes it's hard to believe how much the Trek-books matured since the mid-nineties.
Up to this date I enjoyed exactly two Voyager-stories (But haven't read all of them so far), the first one was last years "Places of Exiles" from the Myriad Universe-Anthology, the second one is now "Full Circle". Hopefully this trend continues with "Unworthy". But I'm quite certain that we have just the a fraction of the tip of the iceberg, the possibilities, opened by the return to the Delta Quadrant are endless. Looks like Voyager is finally set in the right direction.

All we need is the return of a certain admiral . . . but I'm not going go belabor that point any further. :techman:

I for one can't believe they did that to a canon character ;) speaking of which where are the militant Ross fans?

Also I can't believe how slow Amazon is being delivering Full Circle, this thread is makin me so impatient!

(One of these days, I'm going to learn how to use this quote and multi-quote thing.)

Took me for frigging ever.

Alas, the bridge is gone. It was quite the media event when it came down.

I can't believe it. I mean...I guess things happen but the sadness that came over me when I read that...damn. Okay...damn.

I was trying to explain it to my husband last night and his response was....so basically you used to be a tagger? Really hard to make him understand what that bridge was.

Damn.

There have only been a few books in my life that I read like that. Picked it up and pretty much ignored everything else until it was done. The idea that anyone would do that with something I wrote is humbling and cool at the same time.

I'm really glad you enjoyed it though.

That whole "tip of the iceberg" thing is certainly the plan. I tend to think of the possibilities there as endless too. Which is how it should be.

Time will tell if we're right about that. And thanks for your kind words.

Best,
KIrsten

Kirsten,

Wondering if you have anymore Trek books brewing after Unworthy? Would be nice to see you tackle the other series as well.

And for the ongoing Janeway-discussion: Bringing her back would ruin the whole emotional impact of Full Circle. Of course, it's a sad and bitter ending to a would-be love story - and Full Circle managed for the first time in years to make me like Janeway even a bit. Nonetheless, I'd rather stick with the development of the other characters (when was the last time Chakotay was this "alive", even in the hours of his depression?) than getting her back just that some ruffled fan-feathers would be soothed.

Because those fans with the ruffled fan-feathers buy books, that's why. It's pretty obvious from the ongoing commentary that the Voyager fans around the world want Janeway to be included in the books and will be more likely to buy or continue to buy the books if she's there. She can return without damaging the emotional impact of Full Circle or hampering the development of any other character. In fact, her return might be even more heroic than her death--who knows? A good writer can make it work.

You are very right! That's my opinion too! BRING BACK KATHRYN JANEWAY and VOY will go on successfully. Without her VOY will strand in desert.

@Kirsten Beyer, Pocket Books and all VOYAGER fans

I desperately (but also a little bit certainly) hope Kirsten Beyer will bring back Janeway and will re-unit the main characters. It would be the only logical choice for VOYAGER’S future if she really loves Janeway and VOYAGER.

This is not only my opinion.

I second this.
I`m a really big Voyagerfan and I`m very glad about new books featuring the Voyagercrew. Thank you Kirsten Beyer.

But... I`m also a big Chakotay and a really big J/C fan (main reason for me to like Voyager so much).
Voyager without J/C I can`t imagine. Voyagerbooks without J/C- I think it would be very sad for me to read them.

Please Kirsten Beyer bring back Janeway in one of your (I hope so) next Voyagerbooks.

Admit it Kirsten, you just love to make your characters suffer! ;)
Kirsten Beyer said:
I love giving my characters obstacles that are so large, they doubt their ability to overcome them. Usually that involves suffering. But I also love when they've grown and learned from those experiences and get to enjoy the fruits of their victories.

Thanks again for posting your thoughts. Very nice to hear.

Best,
Kirsten

Dear Mrs. Beyer,
At first thanks a million for replying to my posting! I't would be really sad - UNWORTHY without (searching for...fighting for...reviving...Janeway). But I must say I was afraid a little bit that it would be before I posted my thoughts. But I've desperately hoped... Now I'm really disappointed about the obvious truth.
I hope for the book after UNWORTHY (of course written by you!) that now Janeway and Chakotay "have grown" (enough) "and learned from those experiences and get to enjoy the fruits of their victories" you said. Janeway's death isn't a real juicy fruit to enjoy neither for her nor for Chakotay! Isn't it? :(

In Germany we mean:

(Janeway 's alive!)

That's why: PLEASE, KIRSTEN, BRING BACK KATHRYN JANEWAY!
...and yes, the possibilities, opened by the return to the Delta Quadrant are endless to realize this by an exciting story by a perfect writer like you...

Kathryn J, I hate to say this because I'm entirely on your side regarding the decision to kill Janeway, but I think you need to direct your request at Pocket Books and not Kirsten.

Kirsten may have written the book that explored the time before, during, and after her death, but she's not the one who calls the shots at Pocket Books.

I think a writer may or may not agree to write a certain story, but that's where their influence ends.

I and several others have already written letters to Pocket Books, and I'd suggest you do the same because THEY are the ones able to change this decision. ;)

Hi, Gorf
I've already written letters to Pocket Books some weeks ago! :bolian: See here! http://savejaneway.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=savejaneway&action=display&thread=2
I used this addresses. Have you got another ones?
But I'm afraid that they won't read it and have thrown it away. (Of course, no answer by Pocket Books.) My hope was that Kirsten would have the better contact to Pocket Books and may suggest them a new story line.- Hello Kirsten, can you do this, please?-But you are very right, I'll direct my request to Pocket Books again. Not yet. Just waiting a little bit. I'm so glad, that also other fans fight for our Kath. Thank you so much.
(I hope you understand because my English is awful. :()

^^^ no one should fault your English - you seem to have a firmer grasp on it than some for whom it is the mother tongue!
