I’m guessing she’s a pre-Hartnell Doctor and this was what the Master was talking about. Gallifrey was up to something nefarious and used them both, they later wiped their memories gave them new regeneration cycles and tried to coverup the entire thing to create a false image of who they were. This is why the Doctor and Master are the only two Time Lords to really reject life on Gallifrey, on some level they know something was wrong but never could understand because those memories were gone but the feelings were still there.

Certainly would give more meaning to the 6th Doctor's speech from Trial of Time Lord about what it takes for absolute corruption.

With that in mind, neither did River as of "The Husbands of River Song."
I don't think River encountered any Doctor beyond 10-12. Uhh, if you know what I mean.

Actually... thinking about it, not only was there the "I stole you", but also the Impossible Girl saying to One, "That one, take that one." or similar.

I had another thought... what if it's the new Doctor who had her memory wiped, that indeed Jodie is in her past... that something happens and Jodie's, or a future Doctor's, memory is wiped...

Perhaps not likely, but possible.

Hmmm..maybe I'll have that option in the future for special episodes...

Or... 13.

I don't like the theory that Ruth/Doc is a pre-Hartnell doctor because I feel like it would undermine Doctor who lore. But it could fit with the "timeless child" arc and the Master's warning about the Time Lords lying if the Doctor had a whole set of regenerations before Hartnell and wiped the Doctor's memories against the Doctor's will.

But I prefer the theory that Ruth/Doc is a Doctor from a parallel universe. It would be interesting to explore the concept of parallel universes where a Doctor experienced a different timeline. Maybe when the Master nuked Gallifrey, he inadvertently created a parallel universe. Ruth/Doc and Gat are from a parallel universe where Gallifrey still exists.

Well, that was dramatic. Talk about escalation! The Judoon's hunt for a fugitive was exciting enough, but then Graham gets abducted, and then...that voice...it can't be...

It was. I very nearly lost my mind when Jack appeared; never for a moment thought we'd see him again, but damn am I glad we did. Barrowman's found a way to weaponise charisma. And then things got really crazy...

Sadly the friend I watched the ep with largely spoiled the bigger twist just beforehand - he'd seen something on Facebook, and is chronically incapable of keeping his trap shut - but it was still seriously effective. I'm agog to find out the truth, but also, admittedly, a little worried. I'm not as familiar with or tied to classic Who as many of you, but I'm still pretty dubious about the idea of Pre-Hartnell regenerations. Feels risky.

Will this be a triumph or a travesty? Five more eps to find out...

I like the fact that there are Doctor Who 'fans' who still bitch about the Doctor being female and then the writers went 'You don't like that they are a woman? Fuck you, we'll make her a female and black.'

I want risk. I don't give a fuck about what happened on a TV show 25 years before I was born and the video of o longer exists. Doctor Who has a LLLLLOOOOOONNNNGG history of doing something and then undoing it and just bullshitting it as they go along. The 50th Anniversary is a great example of that. Just make something enjoyable and I'll be happy.

The main problem I see there is that I doubt they would lock in a future Doctor like that. Unless Jo Martin is already signed on to take over when Jodie Whittaker leaves. But with Whittaker confirmed to be returning for a third season, I don't see Jo Martin already committed to a role she won't properly take over for a few years yet.

While I agree that Chibnell's DW has not been immune to the minimal stinkers one expects from DW his season and a half it does seem like we've been watching different shows. The seasons have seen more investigative DW than running from monsters DW. And, from someone who was there to watch how bad the 80s got, only Orphan 55 and Arachnid's in the UK even approach the depths Colin Baker's run the first 2 seasons of Sylvester McCoy plumbed.

And after slogging through the Capaldi Era (which could be as dismal as what we got in the 80s), I'm mostly pleased at how Whittaker's run has been, even if I prefer more when she reminds me of Davison than when she's trying to be a female David Tennant.

I loved most of Colin Baker's era (he is my favorite Doctor), and Capaldi's era, while having some of the worst NuWho episodes and mediocre season long arcs, also had some real gems. Comparatively, I have not truly enjoyed a single 13th doctor episode. There have been some I haven't hated and had good/interesting elements, but not a single episode I could endorse as an outright good episode, and most of them are really, really boring (which is frequently worse then being bad).

I think with better writing Whittaker would be a great Doctor, but right now she's easily the blandest. I'm also interested in this new mystery Doctor, but with Chibnall in charge I'm not convinced anything good will come of it.

It’s all very simple. The Doctor we’ve been following for the last 60-ish years is really just some rando Time Lord who got infostamped, a la Jackson Lake (The Next Doctor) with the original Doctors’ data, just without the memories.

:shifty:
Also, remember, the SeventhDoctor put his foot in it a bit when he implied he and Rassilon were contemporaries at the founding of Time Lord society. Remembrance of the Daleks, I believe.

We're kind of opposites here. My favorite Doctor was Davison ( even though Tom Baker was my first exposure to DW). And honestly, Paul McGann's 8th doctor audio adventures are currently my favorites of this century. But I appreciate Chibnell's appproach, as he doesn't treat it like a series for children or a fantasy series and the show is more rooted in reality then I've seen since the 70s.
