James Goss' Time Lord Victorious short story from the TARDIS's perspective is along those lines; the TARDIS is like, "Yup, I'm gonna need three Doctors for this."I've assumed the TARDIS or some other force was purposefully keeping the different Doctors away from each other, unless there was a major crisis that needed multiple Doctors to resolve it.

One of the projects includes a novel, The Kaleidoscope, written by Jo Martin. (I know the way these work, it's probably written by someone like Jac Rayner.)
