Well that was kinda underwhelming. Nothing is grabbing me so far, unless something grabs me in the next couple of episodes, I don't think I'll be watching for much longer.

I voted average. I like the Bishops so I'll continue watching for now but most of their "science" is way too fantastic and too often used as cheap cop out.

Odd show. It has characters who promise growth and is a show full of interesting ideas, action, suspense and mystery; but it all feels a little flat. The ingredients are there, but somehow the mix is all wrong.

This episode was marginally better than the pilot. So Team X-Files has bought one more hour from me next week.
And is it just me, or does most of this magical scifi technology they're using seem to belong more to an episode of TNG or VOY than a show set in the present day?? I'm having a really hard time suspending my disbelief for some of the ridiculous stuff they're doing.

I did too. And I've put my finger on why. It's not the magical technology itself that bugs me. I was able to easily accept the far out concepts of speed growing a clone army and instant pregnancies. The reanimation they hinted to last week didn't even throw me off.

Its that this is the second episode in a row that has used magic technology as a crime solving device. Last week they saw the villain's face through the magic of an LSD shared mind dream; this week the villain's hideout was torn from the dead woman's last sight. TNG and VOY are apt comparisons - its that same technobabble easy out that is found in the worst of Trek.

Average.

Same here. I felt like I was watching CSI: Weird Shit Happens. I'm not a fan of the CSI shows and I'm finding it hard to keep watching this show.

And it's not just the magical technology, it's the magical technology that just happens to save the day at the last possible second.

I could probably forgive that if the writing overall was a lot stronger. But since it isn't I can't help but focus on things like that.

This show seems frustratingly average in almost every aspect and seems to be using the gross-out factor as way too big a crutch. I'm also not really interested in this "Pattern" business because it's just talk. I really think this sort of concept should have been introduced after a number of weird cases or at least show us some examples. Hearing some guy say that a number of odd stuff is happening around the world doesn't really pull me into the show.

And does this show really need FBI chick? Other than this show's assumption that only the government can investigate stuff. I think if Dr. Bishop were the main character this show would be more interesting.

I did notice a CSI moment where after they got the last image from the eye they triangulated and turned the picture right side up. I think CSI New York did that triangulating procedure too

FBI-Barbie finally gets her man! Seriously, there was altogether too much time spent on what's-her-name's old connections, to Charlie Francis, to John Scott, to Brain Surgeon Serial Killer, to Horny Dog Peter. The nonsense about the image was not helped by a "laser" camera randomly flashing ordinary light. The interesting part, the possible parallel (or ironic contrast?) between Claus Penrose/Brain Surgeon Killer to Walter Bishop/Peter got buried. Anna Torv's not doing it for me, so the show is a wash at best. Might try one more, but probably not.

PS The name "Massive Dynamic" is nicely symptomatic of the stylessness of this series. Eureka's Global Dynamics sounds like it could be a real corporation. But Fringe's megacorporation name just sounds wrong.

Yeah because in real life there are no bizarre company names such as "Blackwater", etc...

Why ever would you think "Blackwater" is bizarre? It's misleading, which is not the same thing at all. Nor are jargony names like Xerox or Polaroid bizarre.

On the other hand, a dynamic is not a material object that can be massive. It's a name like Cerulean Music. They sound like an actor's or writer's personal production company, not a corporation that needs to deal with bankers and stock brokers.

It's not found its footing yet, but I'm going to stay with it for a little while longer. DH and I are both enjoying it.

Not sure I care that it's paired with House. I DVR both episodes, and we watch them later that night or later in the week, whatever works for us.

Finally got around to watching the pilot, which I enjoyed (kinda Lost meets X-files) and I'll watch this ep later tonight :techman:

Not too bad of a start off...I'll give it a 'wait and see'
