FRINGE gets 4th Season

Wonderful news! This is one of the best shows on television in any genre. For once, Fox gets it right. Indeed, I am mystified to see that they *have* supported the show this much...I cant help but wonder why.

Well, the current FOX regime has already shown itself to be supportive of genre shows with questionable ratings. They gave Dollhouse two seasons and aired all its episodes (except "Epitaph One," but that was a special case) despite shaky ratings that would've led a previous regime (say, the ones in charge at the time of Firefly) to cancel it halfway through season 1. Maybe they've learned from their predecessors' mistake with Firefly and have come to appreciate the value of a loyal fanbase for a genre show, so they're trying to cultivate those fanbases rather than alienating them. Maybe they just really respect the work of creators like Whedon and Abrams and want to give them every chance. Maybe they like having critically acclaimed shows on their network as a matter of prestige. (We saw a similar dynamic at NBC under Brandon Tartikoff in the '80s. Quantum Leap would never have survived without his personal enthusiasm and commitment toward it. Sometimes network executives do have priorities beyond ratings alone.)

And part of it is clearly that they recognize that Fridays are not going to be a strong night ratings-wise, so they have to lower their expectations. Fringe has done better for them in that particular time slot on that particular night than previous shows did, so that makes it a plus for them.

I really want to know what WB offered FOX in the deal to get this 22 episode pickup...apart from their first born of course

My problems with the latest few episode aside I do love this show.

Great news! :techman: Fringe has an interesting arc, and even in the episodes of lesser quality, there's generally at least a few great Walter moments to look forwards to. Bring on season four!

Fringe is the best sci-fi show on TV, bar none. That includes Eureka, V, Outcasts and Doctor Who.

Maybe it's because I was experimented on as a child (not kidding), or because Olivia and I have similar personalities, but I really find that I can identify with this show more than any other. My wife tells me that I'm like a cross between Olivia and Walter, and I can't argue with her on that.

This show is to X-Files what CSI was to Law and Order. Similar theme, but much more accessible.

I'm wondering if WB cut the license fee to get a 4th season to help in a future syndication deal.

^ She seemed like a decent character, it was annoying they seem to set her up for more episodes that never came. No doubt WB has slashed the fee and maybe offered FOX some % of income from other revenues. The budget of the show will be cut no doubt from CGI effects, salary cuts, too crew size working on the show.

Fringe with a summer off for people to catch up and not having to air episodes in Spring like at the moment, I think the show could do quite well on fridays until February ;).

If I said earlier this week I expect Fringe to be renewed, it would of been cancelled ;) so I am starting early and saying Fringe will be cancelled next season so prepare for season 5

Now that you said prepare for season 5 season 4 is now canceled. :-p

I could see Fringe season 5 on CW if the new president isn't stupid. 13 episode season 5 will get to 101 episodes, good for weekend reruns.
