Freemasons

Another Mason here!

As 137th Gebrig commented, it is nice to meet with like minded individuals who hold similar ideas to mine. That they have pledged themselves to live according to certain rules and principles.

I do a fair bit of traveling, and one of the frist things I do in a new city is try to get in touch with a local Lodge. While I may not make any friends there, it is always nice to meet friendly people in a new area.

I visited a Lodge once that had a sign over the front door: "There are no strangers beyond this door, only friends who have never met." Very true.

Addresses please.

Who controls the British Crown?
Who keeps the metric system down?
We do, we do.

Who keeps Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do, we do.

Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Guttenberg a star?
We do, we do.

Who robs cave fish of their sight?
Who rigs every Oscar night?
We do, we do.

My family has a long history of masonry, but I never really got into it. My grandmother is exceedingly active in some of the irregular masonic groups mentioned earlier. They have really helped her out an amazing amount as she develops Alzheimer's.

Wow, 137! I've read through this wondering if I could assist, but you've provided answers in more detail than I ever could. Thanks!

Most welcome, Dr. Chandra. Usually, any thread that I post in having to do with Masonry on other forums invariably degenerates into a flame-war. I honestly almost didn't respond and open up a dialog because of past experience. Despite the OP's original intentions to attach some far-out stuff and later bait me and other Masons here (some would call it TROLLING), I think that this has gone pretty well.

[freemasonry] saw its "hay day" back in the early 50's after the soldiers returned from the war and started looking for social outlets. They found the Masons, something which was never supposed to be used as a social club

Then what was it supposed to be used as? Almost all organisations (even a lot of companies) are social organisations first and foremost. That's why every local village where I live still has a local 'millitia'--generally consisting of middle aged men who get together for crossbow practice, drinking, and a once-a-year parade in 17th century military uniforms. They've been completely divorced of their original purpose for the past two hundred years, but they still go on.

Since its inception in 1717, Masonry was primarily used as a means to attain personal spiritual enlightenment through its symbolism and teachings. Introspective meditation, study of gnostic principals and esoteric history were its cornerstones. The Renaissance saw the emergence of many such organizations during this time for this sole purpose. The social interaction aspect was always secondary to that.

Now-adays, modern civilization calls this kind of activity "new age" or "occult" - two terms I really personally dislike, as they carry with them a highly negative stigma of kool-aide drinking crystal huggers, neither of which are what we do.

It is going pretty well indeed!

Question: I have a birthmark on my ass in the shape of a right-angled ruler and a compass, does this make me your god?

I can provide pics if you'd like.

It was in reply to MetalPants about the lodges he visited. I was asking for the addresses of all lodges. ;)

I'm going to break with tradition and reveal one of the great secrets of FreeMasonry! In the ancient tome known as Phoneus Directoryus one can find the address and phone number of a local Lodge. This tome of arcane knowledge allows various brothers of who have been raised to sufficient rank and understanding to find, and yea, even communicate with one another.

I hear whispered rumors of the knowledge of the Phoneus Directoryus being transmitted through the fearful technology of the Internet, but I cannot confirm nor deny such heresies being committed.

john_titor, several of your earlier comments in this thread consitute trolling. Please refrain from them. They contribute nothing to this discussion.

The Freemasons are actually energy vampires who are in allegiance with the remote viewing Illuminati to cover up the existence of alien lifeforms from Venus, Mars and our own moon who are currently hiding out underground in Hollow Earth to prepare for the 2012 end of days.

That's a far stretch if ever there was one. Are you a brother too?

Masonic lodges have very sinister connotations in Scotland and Ireland, related to religious bigotry and malice. Other countries do not have these problems.

The Orange Order is what I mean. They were imported from Ireland with the huge influx of Irish immigrants in the 20th century. In the news today it was reported that Glasgow City Council will be forced to curtail the 'marching season' because of the huge cost to police them. The Orders are up in arms about it but unless they stump up the police bill, or alternatively curtail the disgusting displays of drunkenness, intolerance and fornication of their fans, then they are up a gum tree.

I don't know if it makes you our god, per se, but it would be really cool to see at Shriner functions. :)

THIS is what I think of freemasonry. :p

Ah, yes, I know that sketch well. Laughed my ass off the first time I saw it. Still do.

I'm serious - why don't they guys tell me about these things at the meetings. I've met some older members who look like aliens, but SHEESH!

You mean, like the Vatican, all throughout Europe during the middle ages? Did you know that the Holy Roman Inquisition still exists? Like ValueJet changed their name to JetBlue to cover a multitude of sins, so did they, who are now referred to as the "Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith". All Catholics are still welcome to be Masons if they so choose, but with this new Pope, the courtesy unfortunately does not go in the other direction any more, officially reversing decisions made during the Vatican II conference in 1962, ending over 40 years of relative amity between the two groups. Masonry is certainly not innocent of such things in the past, as I mentioned in my "Prince Hall" post, but kindly spare me the lecture that we corner the market in religious bigotry and ignorance.
