Franz Joseph SFB Cruiser - Take 2

Restarted my FJ Cruiser, redoing the saucer. Changed the weapons ports to be more in light with the Star Fleet Battles designs. remade the Impulse Engine to be more spiffy. Again a tip of the hat to Vektor for encouragement (love his new connie!)

anyway here is the status.

^ looks good! Vector's new Connie is what the Enterprise should look like in the new movie IMHO!

Oh I agree! We'll probably like the new ship.......but I remember how fantastic the Defiant looked in the last season of enterprise.

Update. doubled the segments on the saucer and tweaked the engines and Phaser mounts!

shoulnt the area around the the 2 Phaser bank turrents be Gray also? That how i always thought it be since the schematics there dont mention or hint at that area being yellow or even colored in some other color

They are actually yellow so I can see them better. I plan on putting a yellow/black warning stripe on the edges but I found I couldn't see them on my old laptop.

And one last test. Trying out a new look for the top of the impulse deck. Put a test Texture on the top of Saucer as well.

Caught me with bad textures! Actually the Republic is 1371! made a few test renders to see how different looks worked. Looking for a Skinny version of the Starfleet font though (mine looks to thick.

I knew about 1371. I was talking about the mismatched registry between the saucer hull and the side of the bridge tower. (By the way, the side of your bridge tower still says NCC-1600.)

In the SFB Timeline, USS Republic (NCC-1371) was the class ship for an earlier version of the Heavy Cruiser (the YCA from Module Y). After the Constitution was built, the Republic was refitted to match Constitution specs.

What you did with the saucer hull is very interesting. It looks a whole lot like the saucer hulls from the plastic Destroyer and Scout miniatures put out by Gamescience/Zocchi ***WAY*** back when. (On their Heavy Cruiser, the slope from the bridge tower to the edge was shallower and slightly concave.)

One question I have...

Are you planning to stay closer to the Franz Joseph drawings or SFB? (They look mostly the same, but in SFB the Constitution class Heavy Cruiser has four Photon Torpedo tubes in the front of the bridge tower.)

I stuck with 2 torpedo tubes for now, but I have a version with 4 tubes ready to go. I haven't got around to changing the texture just yet

I always wondered why FJ put the torpedo tubes in the front of the bridge tower. In the TV footage, the torpedoes always emerged from the bottom section of the saucer hull, just above the point where the forward phasers always came from...
