Frank Miller Wants to Write Captain America

Hard to believe now, but there was a time when this would have been awesome news. Nowadays, when I see Frank Miller's name, I run in the other direction.

It really is a shame about Frank Miller, going all batshit crazy the way he has. He has, in my time reading comics, gone from "must-read" to "unreadable".

Meh, Remender is doing just fine.

If you mean by an absolute shit job then I agree.

I'd rather have Garth Ennis do Captain America MAX than Frank Millar! Maybe he can do Ultimate Captain America instead since that is more up his alley.

Well I'll just disagree with you both. I really enjoy what Remender is doing with Captain America right now.

I somewhat agree. When I see Frank's name on novels nowadays, a glance at the cover and synopsis and I know the whole story. I would however kinda like to see Miller's take on CA. Hopefully, he doesn't go too far off.

The uncomfortable truth is that Frank Miller was always a kind of a nutjob. I was pretty amazed, when I finally got some direct exposure to his "classic" Dark Knight Returns work, to discover that it presented an out-and-out fantasy of Batman recruiting an army of ^*!#-ing blackshirts to restore order to Gotham... and that practically no-one mentions this.

It makes perfect sense. Frank Miller has turned into a jingoistic right wing nut job since 9/11 and Captain America could easily become an embodiment of what he sees himself as.

i didn't care for the Dimension Z story, but everything after that i've enjoyed. and yeah, Miller on Cap just fills me with dread.

My only experience with Frank Miller is with Daredevil. His work there is actually far more subtle and nuanced than his reputation led me to expect. Even though it's certainly darker than what came before, it built on the works of others in a way that made sense for the character. Had this been 1990, I'd have a decent amount of faith in his ability to pull of Captain America. After all, the good Captain appeared in his Born Again storyline and I thought he did a great job of capturing the spirit of the character (there was a bit of a "First Blood" storyline that was perhaps a bit right-wing in theme, but nothing too extreme).

Obviously, his recent work has cast doubt on all that, which is unfortunate. He is a great comic writer, but his flaws are certainly well-known as well.

"I hate to barge in on you like this Steve, but may I--It's you! You're...."

"What are you, dense? Are you retarded or something? Who the hell do you think I am?

"I'm Captain Goddamn America!"

All-Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder is just terrible, terrible shit.

You win the internet for the day. Use it well and for good, rather than evil. ;)
