^ That's correct but wouldn't make for interesting storytelling. It's explained-away in the DTI novel Watching the Clock - along the line that the universe is self-correcting, so that probability increases the chances of the same people doing vital stuff across timelines, which is why so many D's happen to be present at the quantum fissure in 2370 despite wildly different histories, and Kirk & co ending up on the Kelvin-timeline Enterprise.
