FOX: Sleepy Hollow - Season Discussion

IIRC the network forced a show runner change in order to go onto a 3rd season.

And I agree with Mr. Jones re: his disgust that both Cap Irving and Jenny's roles were diminished in season 2 in order to bring on the unnecessary white guy as a former love of Jenny and future love for Abbie.

One sees what one sees, based on where one stands.

As a female, I saw the unnecessary Hawkins as a way to diminish Jenny and Abbie. After reading the above article I can understand how Beharie and Jones could have seen him as way to diminish Jenny, Abbie and Jones and hence a knock against their race.

I'll miss this show and what it could have been.

I have to admit I've enjoyed season 3 much more than 2 and I loved how Crane called forth the headless horseman to help defeat Pandora in the end.

Articles that I have been reading say that one of the "heads" of the Fox network was very into promoting diversity. He played a large role in getting SH picked up.

Nicole was cast first in the hiring process. Tom was hired because he worked well with her. Abbie was always meant to be co-lead with Crane. The story was these 2 characters. Everyone else was supporting (and diverse...John Cho *how I miss dear undead Andy*...Abbie's ex-boyfriend...one off characters like Big Ash (Native American), seemed poised to show up again in the future).

Shortly after airing, this progressive Fox "head" was fired. New bosses wanted the status quo. A woman of colour couldn't possibly be equally as important as a white man. And that vocal, articulate, astute social media savvy man of colour (who was so important in promoting the show) was now throwing shade at all of the decisions made by the new PTB to diminish the people of colour and whitewash the show...well, he had to be "asked to leave" (as Orlando put it).

Katrina pushed front and centre, sidelining the lead. Hawley brought in, sidelining Irving, the show promoting Betsy Ross as Sexy!Betsy..."a Mrs. Smith to Crane's Mr. Smith" further sideline the lead.

Oh yes. Racism seems to have been rampant. Then the network was shocked (shocked I tell you!) that the fans started calling them on their crap.

What a waste.

Good luck in you future careers Nicole and Tom!

Me too. I think I remember people talking about the change to Clifton Campbell being the second showrunner change over.

I guess that some people assumed that since season two was so bad it must've been because a new showrunner came on and messed things up. I don't remember and can't find anything about a showrunner change until Goffman left.

I thought there was a change like 3-6 episodes into the first season. Maybe I'm thinking of another show.

I've recently been thinking that Nicole Beharie could be a good choice to star in a hypothetical film version of my novel Only Superhuman, even though the lead character is a 5'6", green-eyed redhead who looks more like Scarlett Johanssen. Beharie is just so impressive an actress that it overrides other considerations.

Wow, I did not expect that. I'm gonna try to keep an open mind, but I'm definitely not as excited as I would be if Abby was still around.

don't know if I'll be watching - still have the final episode from s3 on my tivo to watch.

I never quit shows, but I think I'm ready to step away from this one. I can't believe it's coming back.

Wow, I'm stunned. I was kind of hoping that they were putting off an announcement because there were behind-the-scenes negotiations going on with Nicole Beharie. But no, she's gone. I don't know how the show can work without the relationship between Abbie and Ichabod-- that's really the main reason I was watching. I didn't really care much what the unfolding plot shenanigans were, I just wanted to sit back and watch them talk to each other.

That said, Tom Mison is great, and the rest of the cast is fine. Hopefully, they'll keep the strong connection to the Revolution, which was the other reason I was watching. I'll give it a chance. But, for me, it's 1993 all over again.

While Sleepy Hollow has had it's ups and downs, maybe more downs at this point. The star wanted off the show, for whatever reason. She didn't like her character, the producers, the co-stars or she just didn't want to do it anymore. She requested to leave and they obliged her. I'm glad that Sleepy Hollow got renewed, I think that Tom Mison can more then carry the show. Will it be the same without Nicole Beharie, no but maybe that will be good. Maybe some good stories can come out of this. I actually wish they wouldn't add a new member, let Abby's sister take over the roll as the other witness. She was present when Moloch targeted the girls. You still have Jessica Camacho as Foster. Maybe bring someone in to replace Joe but that's it.

Agreed. Lyndie Greenwood has more than proven herself a capable co-star. Bump her up to lead opposite Mison. They've worked together in episodes before, they have chemistry (though not as excellent as Beharie's and Mison's). And for God's sake, no more adding unnecessary characters or love interests like Betsy Ross.

Even though I've not been watching the show LIVE (aside from the Bones crossover this past Fall), I'm happy for the renewal.

However, I feel saddened at the continued hue and cry over what happened in the finale. On the one hand, I can understand why people might have issues with the decision (I've been in their shoes in the past with regards to Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 7 and a few other shows), but there's also a part of me that feels like it's time to let the anger go and get back to being supportive (which is what happened with me; I eventually got myself caught up on BtVS Season 7 and purchased it on DVD).
