FOX: Sleepy Hollow - Season Discussion

The first season was good.

The second season started to go off the rails. Katrina's actress didn't know where they were taking her character's director

Third season- I just pop in once awhile. It's become TV background noise.

I thought that the season was going along fine unti the Hidden One showed up. Since then the show has really dragged. All the dude does is send for the monsters while he sits around in his cave.

Glad to see that Abbie's symbol turned out to be good rather that evil.

^Yeah, I found myself getting pretty bored on this last episode---also seems like we're getting less and less time with Ichabod, which might also be part of the problem.

I really miss hearing Icabod commenting on our modern day America. I know he's been in the 21st century for three years now and he's getting used to things but I missing hearing him go on a rant about high taxes on pastries or whatever. He's getting a bit dull and just too serious.

I find myself mentally checking out whenever the Jenny/Joe relationship drama shows up. They're really boring together. I found Hawley annoying but he and Jenny were a bit more interesting that her and Joe.

I was at least right in assuming the symbol was not evil. Maybe Crane and Abbie can use it to defeat the Hidden One. I agree, it is getting to be a chore watching the episodes.

I'm still enjoying the individual episodes, but there has been no real arc movement. I have to admit, since I still enjoy watching the episodes I was trying to come up with a defense for the second half of the season, but there really hasn't been one. It has been kind of a mess overall. It seems like they really want The Hidden One to be a big scary threat, but he really hasn't done anything. I was pretty intrigued when they announced they were bringing in a kick-ass Betsy Ross character, but she's also ended up being a kind of pointless character. Some of the flashbacks with her have been pretty good, but since that's all she's in we don't get to spend enough time with the character to really get to know her. I thought bringing Katrina forward did help the character quite a bit, until that all went off the rails. I can't help but wonder if the same wouldn't be true of Betsy too, but only if they can keep a better handle on her story than they did on Katrina's.
I was really excited when they announced Clifton Campbell, the creator of The Glades, which I loved, was joining the show, but whatever he brought to that show doesn't appear to have been brought over to Sleepy Hollow.
At least this week we did get to see Pandora actually do something.
I also thought it was interesting that the flashbacks to the worm creatures origins actually didn't connect back to the American Revolution.
After this one, I have to admit, it could be kind of cool did more stuff involving parts of American history other than the Revolution.
I had totally forgotten that Joe was a Wendigo.
The stuff with Abbie and Sophia fighting the worm monster was fun.
I actually really like Jenny and Joe, and their storyline was a nice way to give Pandora more to do.

That was a really creepy, wormy monster, kind of Lovecraftian-- it definitely looked like something that would crawl out from under a rock. There were certainly too many convenient developments and unanswered questions, though.

The revelations about the symbol from the Catacombs were weird, but interesting-- it's kind of a nice twist, and explains why Abby was so drawn to it. I suspect that she will be telling her boss everything soon. And I don't think he will be too surprised.

And it looks like Pandora will be able to turn Corbin against the others now that she knows he's a Wendigo.

I didn't realize that sounds really corny. It's like a cartoon.

I can live without the Jenny and Joe sitcom stuff. This is a fun horror romp, not a domestic comedy.

I feel the Joe & Jenny relationship is a bit forced, maybe to try to compensate for the lack of romance between Ichabod and Abbie themselves. Still, I prefer that they continue to make Crane and Mills' relationship extremely platonic.

I like romance, but the one I was interested in was the one with Ichabod and the historian.

New episode tonight
3x15: Incommunicado
Description
TV Guide said:
A surprise supernatural event forces Abby and Ichabod to ally themselves with their natural enemies, while Jenny's and Joe's personal demons threaten to undermine their relationship.

Let's see: If Crane is the quintessential American, who would his natural enemy be? Are we going to see a guest appearance by Donald Trump? :rommie:

I kinda like the detente stories, where the opponents are forced to either work together or at least be civil to each other. Crane was smooooth. Just handing an evil god a pen and paper and demanding a translation. Sitting down by the fire with a drink to wait out the end.

I've enjoyed the last three eps, even the derided Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein one.

The promo for next week is giving me all sorts of good vibes.

(After 3 seasons... is this really a spoiler?)

"Monsters are real and they're here in Sleepy Hollow."

"That doesn't sound good."

It was all right, not one of the strongest episodes I've seen. The banshee was just a random monster of the week that paid homage to St. Patrick's Day. Although Joe and Jenny ended up killing her, it didn't really have an impact on Pandora's attempt to free the Hidden One and Crane from the magic "force field." It was thus revealed that the symbol was something Crane and Abbie or other humans could use against a godlike being. And Crane found out being a Witness was part of his bloodline.

That was pretty good. Some nice Abbie and Ichabod interactions, and I like that they (maybe) cured Corbin of his Wendigo affliction-- even though the Wendigo is one of their better monsters. I loved how the antlers clunked on the floor when he collapsed. :rommie:

And the finale is being advertised as the "season" finale. That doesn't mean anything is certain, but it's more encouraging than the alternative.
