Foreign numbers VERY Dissapointing.

I don't know about other countries, but I think it's very possible in Germany people still think of Star Trek as that stupid kiddies show that's to embarrassing to watch as an adult.
The reason for this is, that TOS was originally broadcast on a kids time slot. ZDF, the network who showed it here for the first time in the early eighties (I believe it was) even dubbed it wrong in some parts, to make it more kiddie friendly.
It was never promoted differently.
The only time Star Trek was ever broadcast in a prime time slot was with the arrival of Voyager, which also changed after only one season again because of the ratings. It led to the unusual popularity of Voyager compared to the rest of Trek, but couldn't do anything to change it's image on the whole.
In the end, when people hear Star Tek, they think of silly people in pyjamas and unbelievable aliens in rubber masks. Maybe a slightly more serious show than Power Rangers.
No way a simple promotion campaign will ever change that. what paramount needs to do, is a serious IMAGE campaign! Show the people Trek can be as adult and badass, as DK, Transformers, ID4, LotR or even Harry Potter.

A lot of people don't even know the difference.
But a lot of other people like all the flashy effects and simple good vs evil story i guess.
Star Wars has a lot more of ambition to plead the crowds and no baggage like Trek does (never mind the endless number of books, comics, cartoons and merchandise)

Transformers? ADULT?
Well maybe not adult, but the new movies are definitely appealing to teenage / twenty-year-old boys. So it's not something they disdain as being a kids show.

Interesting how Germany is one of Trek's biggest markets, but it didnt do too much more than Nemesis, in comparison.
But looking at those numbers, it's because Nemesis for whatever reason didn't do nearly as badly in Germany as in most other countries, rather than because of any failing of ST09.
Dissapointing my arse...that post there shows how good ST did, I imagine the next film will reach over 150 oversea's even 200 if we can get a big name for cast villian.
Now, if we can just have the same increases for the next movie. 
The only foreign number that is officialy dissappointing imho is indeed Germany. It did only as well as Nemesis in terms of tickets sold and far worse than Insurrection, First Contact and Generations did.
Infact I believe FC, GEN and INS all sold twice as many tickets as XI did in Germany.
