Do you have calluses on your feet? I've got terrible calluses. I guess it's from being on my feet at my job for the past five years.

The odd thing is this past year (being unemployed and thus on my ass), they're begun to crack and peel away. Sometimes a fault line will develop and eventually become a huge peel. It's pretty gross. I bought a pumice stone thingy to rub away at these things. You can rub away like crazy with this hard rock and all it does is smooth it down!

Is there some kind of special product to take care of this? Or is this just a fact of life? Does this happen to the ladies as well?

I have some calluses on my feet, it's just a fact of life -- especially an active life. I walk at least 5 miles a day and so they're inevitable.

There are a number of home remedies you can try. Soak your feat in salts and then have at the calluses with a pumice stone. If you're disinclined to do it your self you can get a special callus-removal pedicure at a spa, just be sure to research the pedicurist first. A fair price is $30-$40.

If your calluses are causing you pain then you may want to see a podiatrist to have them removed.

No, they don't cause pain. Only time that ever happens is when I cut away a peeling part and end up cutting too much too deep and then its sensitive for a day or two.

^Then I'd recommend monthly self treatments with a pumice stone (you just have to keep at it, though it may seem it's not working at first) and plenty of daily moisturizer. If your diligent you can keep them in check.

I'd invest in a really good pair of shoes too. There are shoes especially made for people who have to stand or walk long periods. In your case it would seem to be worth it.

I have really bad cracked heels, and I use a product called a "ped-egg". It's one of those "as seen on tv" things, but it works really well to get rid of calluses and the like. (I think they sell it at places like Bed, Bath, and Beyond.)

Definitely buy good shoes. It makes a big difference when you're standing and walking a lot. I put gel heel pads in mine too.
