I disagree on ghosts, I have seen the ghost of my deceased cousin, about a month after his death from cancer. I was fast asleep and I heard his voice 'what are you doing asleep'... I replied 'I am tired'... and then I woke myself up, realizing this was NOT a part of my dream. I raised my head, and I saw a sphere with a near unrecognizable face on it, and I just lay there staring for a moment, now fully awake, wondering what the hell it was. Before I could say a word, the sphere transformed into a miniature version of my cousin, with a green aura, he looked at me, and then he went away, like he was going in a direction and I only got to see him for a moment. I am guessing it was his way of telling me he was okay... and completely in line with his whacky sense of humor.
I no longer fear death, because there is nothing to fear. We leave our bodies yes, but we continue to exist, we can make decisions and we live on with or without a corporeal body. This body we have is NOT US, it is a shell, a container, a space-suit for this reality, that's all. Our energy, our memories, who we are, that all survives even though the brain does not. What we are is truly eternal, only our bodies (space suits) suffer the ravages of time.
The ghosts who have been in a place for a long time, they're the people who believed that they were their bodes, they can perceive no more, and so they remain trapped and unable to move forwards and accept their life for what it was, a brief period of experience.
Think of it a bit like the trill and their hosts. The spirit is the symbiont and the host is the body. Each 'body' brings new abilities, new ways of thinking and being, but the symbont, the spirit, has had many lifetimes, Okay, it's not exactly the same thing, it's a metaphor. I hope you understand.
