Fitness Checkin

I have been walking 30 minutes a day since July 1st, usually in the morning. I feel better and my therapist said I look better. :)

I think I am going to add some type of muscle building routine next. :bolian:

You can do it! My recent walking routine has helped me start feeling better, even if I can only walk a mile before having to head back home. I plan on starting to do push-ups and such to build my upper body as well.

Progress pic!

Only doing 2-3 days a week at the gym these days. My job of the last year and a half is terrible for scheduling. Managing to be in the 248-260lb range and doing some moderately heavy lifting. Today I did some hack squats since i do them to take off pressure off my back in my old age. I worked up to 720lbs for 10 reps, which is about 2 plates away from what the machine can hold.

^I did that Wednesday night, and then Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I went out of town for a bachelor party where we barely got any sleep. I am WORN OUT.

Lost 21 lbs, I am guessing I lost most of it from walking, started JUL 1st and was last weighed in late MAR.

I recently dead lifted 160% of my body weight (up from 130% in May).

And I don't like the current "functional fitness" craze and the way its proponents look down on old-school weight training routines.

If you work out primarily for aesthetic development (and there is nothing wrong with that), then weights are a necessity. I agree about using proper technique in order to avoid injury. And it's also very important to learn about anatomy and nutrition.

I had to work 12 days in a row. I barely slept and only had time to eat maybe once a day. I just tried going to the gym and was absolutely miserable. SO WEAK!

I'm gonna gorge myself on food for the next few days and try and get my strength back!

I ran the Spartan Killington Beast over the weekend.

Last year I ran it and finished in 7:35, this year I improved it by two hours to 5:34. Also finished 24th in my age group, which would make it the first time I qualified for OCRWC in a Spartan Race (I did qualify at Bonefrog and Battlefrog which have a smaller field).

This will be my last open wave before I switch to the more competitive elite wave for next year.

I am down to 72 kg (about 158 lbs). At my heaviest I was 83 kg (182 lbs).

I am now easily walking 70,000 steps a week. That is about 50 km. I do my longest walk on Sundays. Last Sunday I walked 23,000 steps which was 16 km (almost 10 miles). I did it in two separate walk, one in the early morning which last about 2 and a half hours and another half hour towards evening.

This Sunday I am hoping to make 17 km.

My back is much stronger. I am some pain in my left knee and right ankle but I think if I invest in some proper walking shoes that might help.

I have planned to reach 70kg by Christmas and 68 kg by my birthday in February but if I continue at the rate I am going I might reach the 68kg by Christams.

Edited to add - this is what I wrote back on 11 July in this thread.

So far I am week 3 of my steps. First week I managed 45,496 steps (nearly 32km) , the second week I managed 50,020 steps (35 km). This week I have managed 44,470 so far with two and a half days. On three days so far this week I have managed to reach 10,000 but only managed 8,000 steps yesterday.

Here's my plan for the week:
Monday: HDX Bootcamp
Tuesday: Krav Maga
Wednesday: HDX Bootcamp
Thursday: Krav Maga
Friday: Upper body
Saturday: Kick boxing
Sunday: rest

Oh, I'll get there at some point. I've taken a break from deadlifts the last month or so, just trying to do other things and kind of mix up my workouts. I was starting to reach a point of stagnation. I'll come back to them soon enough.
