First Time Viewing

Hey guys,

Sorry if you've seen me mention this before. I'm watching DS9 for the first time properly. I've seen a few other people here doing the same thing. Its AWESOME. I can't believe I didn't like it when it was new. In hindsight I was too young and I think I happened to catch a couple bad ones (Rumpelstiltskin for example).

On one hand I want to read all the postings in here but I'm scared for spoilers. Its not really fair for me to ask everyone to not mention what happens in episodes I haven't seen, they are 15 years old after all

Anyway, I'll post a few threads for episodes that really stick with me but over all I'll have to stay away. I think I'll hit you guys hard when I'm done season 7

In a spoiler free way though, what's everyone's favorite season?

Five, followed by seven and then two. Those seasons all do the best job of mixing all the various continuing plotlines into one big ball of complicated loveliness in such a way that they all feel sensible and organic while having mutual effects on each other and still managing to surprise you.

Season 5 is the popular favourite. It's the confluence point of the show, it gathers up a bunch of plot threads from the previous four seasons, combines them, then sends them on the trajectory that they continue on for the final two seasons.

I recently re-watched the show on Netflix myself. I hadn't seen it since it first aired, and yeah, I was very surprised at how great it was. I think my favorite seasons are 4 and 5. Without getting too spoilery, I love Klingons!

I think so far I liked 3 best. I wasn't thrilled with 1 but there were a few good episodes, then 2 was solid and 3 was the best. I don't like Klingons that much (except for early Worf discommendation TNG) so I felt it pulled away from the Dominion stuff that I really liked. I've heard it goes back that way now. Pretty excited.

Just finished "The Ship". That was good too. A tense one all cooped up in a hot little can. Pretty good work by Kilana, I hope she comes up again. And I felt bad when Muñiz inevitably bit it

I liked when O'Brien and Worf had it out but I found it a bit difficult to believe. I know both characters would feel that way but I can't believe Worf would push that hard. Or that O'Brien would ever hit a superior officer no matter how mad he was

Glad you liked "The Ship" I feel like the point of the episode was to show how one behaves when they are pushed beyond their limit emotionally. Such as Dax and Sisko having an uncomfortable moment.

this is awesome, I too am watching ds9 for the first times... just like TNG and Voyager, it took me a long time to try it out as I always think the newer series will never be as good as the older ones... I think I'm liking this one the best of all of them.

I'm about 8 shows into the fifth season now (LOVED the trials and tribble-ations, so well done)

What's your favorite season so far? Do you know what's coming or are you totally blind? I unfortunately did see a couple episodes of season 6 when they first aired. Enough to know I would like them if I understood what was going on, but sadly enough to kind of ruin a bit of the surprise.

I'm on season five, episode 14 now and am BLOWN AWAY... the dominion has just sent ships through the wormhole... can't wait to see the continuation...

I don't have a clue what's going to happen, I was always a bit late watching all the series, mostly when they had already ended because I just can't commit to watching tv on regular basis. the thing I am liking most about ds9 is not having the feeling that regardless of what happens it will all be concluded and fixed within the hour long show. when odo became a solid, I really didn't know if it would be permanent or not - I love that.

Favorite season? Personally, I like the second season best. The fifth, however, is a close runner-up.

Makes me wish that I could watch DS9 again for the first time. It's one hell of a ride. Best television show ever.

I'm torn between racing through as fast as I can, because I'm enjoying it so much - or pacing myself to make it last.

I think a good compromise would be to race through and then watch it again from the beginning and really catch the intricatcys (sp?) that I missed the first time around - especially since I didn't know the characters well during the first few seasons.

I can't believe this isn't universally considered the best trek series.

I did this a couple years ago and loved it. It was like having new trek. I can' believe how good it still looks. Hasn't become dated at all.

I'm about halfway through Season 5 on Netflix myself, and haven't watched the show since it originally aired. But I'm of the same opinion as you, I don't want to read any spoilers because watching it again is like seeing a brand new show! I did the same when I watched Voyager all the way through, too. I didn't worry as much when watching TNG, because I have seen every episode so many times on re-runs anyway.

So far for me, Season 5 is shaping up to be the best, although I know what's coming in Seasons 6 and 7. The episodes are all geared towards building the relationships between the characters, which makes what happens to them all the more powerful.

I think my favorite character is Sisko. I'm a father myself and I really like his relationship with Jake. Its so real and warm. And to raise a kid on your own is a scary thought, but while all this Dominion stuff is going on? Crazy

Favorite episodes is a bit harder. I'm losing track of names already. When the Cardassians did that pre-emptive strike on the Dominion. Most of the so-called "O'Brien must suffer" ones.

Oh and right away the DTI is in it. I read a few novels that had those guys in them and didn't know what was going on. I've read most of the TNG/Titan novels since the relaunch but none of the DS9 because I didn't want to ruin my viewing the show

What is the series about? Benjamin Sisko is assigned by Starfleet to run a broken-down ex-Cardassian outpost at the ass-end of the Federation. Things get lively when they discover a highly valuable and strategic wormhole next door and some non-corporeal beings take an interest in Sisko for unexplained reasons.

Well, that's how it starts. To tell you more would risk serious spoilerage.

Favorite season: mid-S5 through mid-S6.

Favorite characters among those who were around for the premiere: Kira, Dukat and Garak (was Garak in the premiere?)
