First Thought When You Get a PM?

We all know how it works. That little box in the top corner lights up in red. You have a message! So what is your first thought, before you open it or even see who it's from?

Mine is sort of a "Oh shit what did I do now?" response, which Is silly considering I'm not in the habit of getting into too much trouble. I think it goes back to my anxiety issues. Hearing a knock on the door or getting a phonecall provokes a similar feeling of apprehension.

Of course sometimes then I'm like wait, is this just a friend request?

What about the rest of you? I'd love to hear what the mods think!

I think "Oh great! A privat message! Lets see who wrote me and what it´s about!"

I get a little excited , and, yes, a little apprehensive, which is silly of me because I don't think I've ever had a PM that wasn't pleasant or at least neutral. But my reaction is usually interest that someone wants to say or share something, and mild pleasure that they've dispelled the monotomy of my day to do it. I like seeing the red. In fact, certain adverts near the top of the screen cause me a brief disappointment when I register a flash of red or scarlet and it isn't a PM.

I tend to get PM's that are friendly chats or asking for a photoshoppy favour. Sometimes both. So now my Pavlovian reaction is "Ooh! Nice!" when I see the red box.

:D

Door knocks cause mild apprehension for me too, because anybody I actually want to see knows to call me before dropping round.

It's almost always the police coming to ask about something that happened at the pub opposite, or a local break-in, or a car theft, and my first thought is always "arrrrgh, the bong!", which is often knocking around the lounge only vaguely out of sight.

I get 5 or more PMs every day though, so it's quite regular and normal.

uhh... well I'll admit my first thought is "what is this crap." I'm much worse when the phone rings though. It's just a knee jerk reaction not connected to most things on the other end.

I'm actually enraged every time the phone rings.

You do realize that I'm noting anyone who has a bad reaction to them so I can send out a mass PM to all of you?

But then it would be a pleasant surprise when it's not something bad, but in fact a PM from you, so you would achieve the opposite of your objective. ;)

Ah, but the anxiety followed by the relief will subtly destabilize the fragile psyche. And knowing it could happen because Kestra has seemingly explained her evil plan introduces a further level of uncertainty. Or something.

Muahaha.

I very, very rarely usethe pm system. Basically i only use it when Rushbo uploads another Ezri fanfic ang he gives me a heads up.

I barely ever have a PM sent (even less so recently) and even when it happens it's normally just Jaytrek...

But I still shit bricks every time. I always read it immediately too, that pink/colour DEMANDS to be clicked. And it's (almost :shifty:) always nothing bad at all, so I should not be worried, but I am.

Same here. My first thought is, "What did I do?" even though I've never received a PM like that. I haven't received any unpleasant PMs about my modding, either.
So, I also have positive feelings when I see the red box.

I hardly ever get PMs so my eyes kinda skip over that part of the screen. So it's always a bit surprising when I do get one.
