First Thought When You Get a PM?

Usually, something along the lines of "Click the little red box".

I love getting PMs; they're usually very nice (asking how I am, offering to make avs for me, etc). Only a few have been negative or creepy, and those stopped awhile back. Recently, I even got a friend request (thanks, GA!).

I do miss the "happy envelope" signal, though.

I miss the envelope thing too. There was something special about an envelope flashing, kind of old school "you got mail" from the AOL days. ;)

In over a decade here, I've never gotten one that contained a 'spankin'. So on the rare occasion when I do get one, my thoughts are, oh, a PM. Lets see what this is all about.

Ah yes, the flashing PM envelope.

How many of you TBBS veterans want to click on this right now? :D

I mostly lurk and post only very, very sporadically; so I receive hardly any PMs anymore. Back when I was more active and still did, I always got excited. Same with actual mail! Nowadays it's mostly bills or other bureaucratic stuff, my my inner five year-old girl still hopes that somebody wanted to surprise me. She's never right but I still quite like it.

I don't get PMs here. On other forums I participate in, most people are asking about the speaker stands I have in a picture of my computer desk.

"Oh, geez, what the hell does s/he want??" :scream:

More seriously, it depends who it's from. PMs from acquaintances / friends are always good. PMs from people I rarely or never interact with tend to make me think I might actually have to do something around here, which seriously conflicts with my natural laziness. PMs from Bonz automatically induce terror. And PMs from Kestra I just delete unread. :D

And yes, I miss the envelope. I don't miss much about the old software, but I do miss that envelope.

Hah, I've had the same reaction. Unless I know to expect it by initiating a conversation, I sometimes wonder what I've done, as I like to think I'm easy to get along with and don't get into much trouble, or at least try not to. I think if the PM notification were green instead of red, I'd feel less nervous about receiving them. Red makes me feel like I need to stop something where green makes me feel more at ease. I guess traffic lights have conditioned for us to think that way.

I get them so rarely that I get a nice little jolt of euphoria and excitement. And I have to click it right away!

Most of the it's just friend requests or people (See: J.) sending me stuff.

I'm a happy camper when someone actually takes the time to send me an real message, even if it's bad.
