First Thought When You Get a PM?

Usually it's just sort of a "What the hell? Did they mean to send that to me? :wtf:" reaction, just because I don't usually get a lot of PMs. :p

I only rarely use the PM system, but I get a few head-ups about interesting threads from time to time. So I usually get a smile whenever I have a PM, because I know interesting times are ahead.

My first thought is always, "Great-- another drunkl PM from Spiff suggesting that we buy a vintage Corvette convertible and set out down Route 66 to find America."

It's rare, but when I DO get one, I usually think, "What's this, and who's it's from?"

But then I open it and find out.

I thought of that and was going to spell it out and say "Private Message" but the I figured people would misread it as "Private Massage" and the thread would turn disgusting. Don't make the thread disgusting. :(

Too late; you just took it there! :p

In all my years in all my forums, I have only ever received one warning (on another forum), and it was only for getting in the middle of a flame war. I told the troll that I would normally "ignore" him, but didn't on the off chance that he would say something productive. The warning included a quote of my post, and I still don't see what I said was considered "attacking another poster", so I think the mod just gave out blanket warnings to everyone in the thread.

Ever since, every PM I get on any forum is always an immediate "Oh shit, what did I do?" reaction.

Honestly based on past history it is either

A)A mod telling me that kind of posting is not appropriate, or

B)A poster telling me suicide is not the answer.

Usually when I get a PM it's a response to a PM I sent, so I know know exactly who sent it and why before clicking the little red box. It's definitely more fun when I'm not expecting one.
