First spy PHOTOS of Quinto as Spock

Very cool. He looks great. They could have really screwed up on those ears (just witness some of the films!) but those are dead on. Fred Phillips would be proud.

After sooo many years, it's so nice to be back in TOS-land.

I'm happy. :)

Now I'm scared to look! :rommie:

...damn thing's taking too long to load anyway. :p Somebody make it an avatar so I can see it!

Ok, now which board member wants to take credit for being the first to suggest Quinto as young Spock? Because I will!

Heck I was yakking about how he'd be a great Spock before anyone knew there was going to be a frakkin' movie about Spock. I thought I was just dreaming. That was back in the olden days when ENT was cancelled and Trek was dead dead DEAD forever!!! Remember that?

Hmm. Well, the photo I've seen doesn't look that much like a young Nimoy . . . more like a young Dennis Quaid made up like Spock.

Yet another indication that this is being done as a part of "existing canon" rather than something very different.

The haircut is iconically "Spock." Despite so many people (here, especially) MOCKING that haircut, the movie folks have kept it. Because that's what Spock looked like back in the day.

Actually, Quinto looks REALLY GOOD in the makeup. And it looks like he's wearing some variant of "Vulcan Traveling Garb" here, not a uniform per-se. Not as seen in the latter-day Trek series, but as seen in "Journey to Babel" and "Yesteryear." (Agree/disagree?)

Cary I agree this in-continuity, I came to that conclusion for sure, given the latest round of plot rumors. It would story wise undermine all jeopardy involved in said plot rumors if this became some kind of reset. Then there's the fact of Nimoy being in the film.

From the pics it looks like those other Vulcans are wearing like garb.

Since it's damned hard, even with my uber-fast connection, to get these, I'm going to put up my favorite here, just temporarily (still with the original source watermark in place) so you guys who can't get it to load can see...

"Spock, why are you keeping all these brains in jars in the bowling alley refrigerator?!?"

... and Spock's Brain takes on an added, ominous significance...

(and yes I know that frame's not from SB). ;)

Shocking really, no one can question this casting. While I still feel recasting a remake does not strictly NEED to have actors that look like those originating the role, Quinto was a coup.

I'm surprised by how good he does look. And his costume is a bit 60s in how simple it looks, yet it has a rich texture. I'm even more excited by this now.

The eyes, haircut, and ears are perfect. But the nose isn't quite right. He's not quite a ringer, but if he can deliver the lines with enough of Nimoy's style, I'll soon forget he isn't the original.

Curiously, I find myself hoping the new Kirk doesn't try to emulate Shatner too much.

So the next test will be... will they give Chris Pine the 1960's Shatner haircut (that WAS still his real hair back then, wasn't it?)

I think that if you give Pine that hair, he really looks pretty damned close, too. Can't wait to see him "in character" for the first time.

You know, when I first heard about the movie couple months ago, I was more than slightly concerned but decided that being the good little Trekkie I am, I would go see it regardless of my misgivings.

But, the more stuff that comes out and especially after these pictures, someone's going to have to tie me up, toss me in a basement, and lock the door to keep me out of the theaters! These are looking awesome, and I for one am incredibly excited!

They'll have to reinvent the "Shat Wave."

They can't even find one of the hairpieces from the original show. Shatner stole them all.

Not according to an interview I read some years ago with Yvonne Craig - apparently she got green Orion Slave Girl makeup on his hairpiece and pissed him off.
