First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Thrones

Just got done looking through it. Pretty neat.

I love how they didn't even attempt to do a family tree for House Frey. No mention of Brynden "Blackfish" Tully on the Tully tree? I seem to recall hearing he'd been written out of the Eyrie scenes for season 1 but still...

To be fair. the old Lord Commander IS a minor character. Told he's important (by other characters), but from a story standpoint, he doesn't really DO anything in the story, other than bring Jon along and then die, which lets Jon take over. Could kill him earlier without a lot of loss to the story...
Jon taking over at the end of the first season doesn't make much sense - he's still a rookie without any distinction other than being a Stark bastard. There are much better men than him at this point.

He was still pretty much a rookie when he got it in the books, too. He went on, what? 1 entire mission, in which pretty much everyone was killed? Not exactly a grizzled veteran there. And there WERE lots of more qualified people, but they were all kinda douchey and deadlocked, which left that opening.

Since we're talking about a DEPARTURE from the books, this one looks like it could at least be easier to manage than killing a main character. Also sets up at least ONE good thing going for the Stark clan, and could let them ramp things up a bit in the struggle going on up north, with this maybe ending the first season on a promising note, Jon taking command of the Watch, etc.

Not a chance in hell. Jon as LC would take far too much buildup and a lot of changes to his story afterward and just plain doesn't make any sense.

I'm putting my money on Hoster Tully. It takes a couple chapters from ASoS and turns them into "Dark wings, dark words m'lady. We've just received news that your father has died."

He was also basically commanding the defense of the wall from the wildling horde until Stannis arrived and was pretty successful.

I could see Tully as well, but not sure what that acutally DOES to the story. Honestly, don't really need to make any other changes to reflect that, he never even gets out of bed, just hangs around a while and dies... Thought the spoiler indicated that it would be something that would change the storylines a bit?

They said they did it in the interest of proactively removing unimportant material from a theoretical later season. Word is it is a very minor character. Hoster suits both since he doesn't really add anything to the story except giving us hints as to the whole Lysa/Littlefinger/Jon Arryn/'Tansy' stuff and his funeral is a relatively large moment in the third book, though not particularly important to the overall story.

So who's going to be watching tonight? I really wish I could.:wah: This is my most anticipated piece of entertainment all year, and I will be eating up every clip and recap/review I can while waiting for the DVDs/Itunes.

I just started the book over so I can hopefully get through as much of the series as possible before this comes out on DVD or so I can follow along if I find a way to see it.

Is there any way to watch something someone else DVRed, off of the DVR? My neighbor has digital cable and if so I might ask if she'd mind DVRing it for me. I just want to be able to watch it in at home, because it's not really the kind of thing I want to watch in older lady I barely know's house.

Not without special equipment. The person who has the DVR needs to have a 'slingbox' or similar equipment that allows access to the TV and recordings over the internet.

No DVR I'm aware of allows this out of the box. (unless it is a custom PC build)

I have never read the books, so I don't know what I should do first? Do I read the books then watch the series or do I just wait to read the books?
All I know is its interesting. And Hello Ronan Dax, I am starting to think that guy loves playing those kind of parts.

Why don't you watch a few episodes and see if you like it? (if you have access) The series is apparently a very close adaptation, so if what you see interests you - then by all means read/get the books.

I'm guessing book sales for this series will dramatically increase after season 1. :)
