(first Post) Best TOS scene to recut?

Hi there, this is my first post on this board, so hello.

I am a University student right now and i have an idea for an assignment that i would really like your feedback on. Basically I want to demonstrate the advancements made in fan produced media, user generated content and home computing.

what i propose to do, is to take some clips from the original star trek series and using 3D CGI and after effects, "update" them. Basically, i would like to take, for example the old cardboard spaceships and replace them with CGI, or even remake some classic aliens or any other special effects.

I appreciate that this may be against the spirit of TOS, which in my opininion was ace regardless of its low budget and laughable special effects by modern standars but i simply want to demonstrate that a modern individual now has superior facilities in a home computer than an entire production crew and studio had in the 1960s.

So, what i would really like from you guys is some suggestions of scenes that would be good to have a bash at. Some space battles would be good, or any other scenes that you think would be good to experiment with.

Please note, I am a fan of Star treak, and i do not want to make fun of it too much.

Sounds like fun! If I had the wherewithall I'd edit Janice into a few more bridge and corridor scenes to make up for the fact that she was unjustly written out, you know, where she minces on to serve coffee or stand around looking worried. Nobody did it better.

Personally, I think Star Wars III is in greater need of a fan edit though...

How about the Tholian web? That's an easy one to start because there is an Enterprise episode to work with.

What i would really like to work with is a classic space battle scene, like the Ent vs some other ship volleying phasers and torpedoes about, but unfortunately, since i dont really know TOS that well its taking me ages to sift through so many hours of dialogue just to find a space battle.

Which is why i came on here

You can look at the Enterprise episode for inspiration on what a non-cheesy Tholian ship might look like.

• "Future Tense"
• "In a Mirror, Darkly"
• "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II"

- or look under Tholian on Memory Alpha.

Balance of Terror has a space fight but with a cloaked ship. The Corbomite Manoeuver has a space battle. I think the Ultimate Computer has war games in.

There's no space battle to speak of in "The Corbomite Manuever," just a very long stand-off. They fire their phasers once, early, to destroy a space buoy.

Other than "The Doomsday Machine," the episode containing the most extended space battle is probably "The Ultimate Computer" and it's probably one that could really stand editing.

There is a brief space battle between the Enterprise and a Klingon battlecruiser in the Season 3 episode "Elaan of Troyius".

There is a brief space battle between the Enterprise and 15 Romulan Birds of Prey in the Season 2 episode "The Deadly Years".

There is also a brief space battle between the Enterprise and a high speed Orion Scout spacecraft in the Season 2 episode "Journey to Babel".

Ima go ahead and make the opening sequence first and the determine how much time i have left and how easy it it to do and then choose some scenes to recut from this list.
