Kirk had lighter color hair. The head Tribble works best when there is less contrast between the hair and the skin. Isaacs is very pale and has almost black hair making his more noticeable and phony looking. I'm willing to be he gets some highlights around the front and sides at some point.
They had the same issue with the Klingon wigs in the TNG era. They all had fake looking black hair and over time they lightened it quite a bit to make it look more natural.

Hair aside, I'd rather he'd been a new alien, one they could develop over time. Also, it would have been a first for Trek captain as a main character.

All these nip and tuck photoshops are improvements, which shows how easy it is to do better than the people who got paid the big bucks.

I certainly mean no disrespect to the people doing these photomanips (heck, I've even done them myself), but to me none of them look better than what the people actually working on the show have created.

The maroons are overwhelmingly the most popular uniforms in the whole fandom and they certainly weren't familiar and samey.

Nice! Hadn't noticed the color-coded boots. And it's also cool that the TrekMovie article points out the short-sleeved variant. Still curious what that's all about.

I don't dislike the maroons, but they're pretty far down on my list. My favorites in order are FC/DS9 S5-7, TNG S3-7, DS9 S1-5/VOY. I've honestly never been that fond of the TOS series uniforms, they're just solid colored shirts and black pants.
