Looking good. McShane looks badass as Blackbeard. Can't wait for this movie next year!:techman:

That's four of us in agreement. This is definitely the movie I'm looking forward to for next year. I've always been fascinated by the life of the real Blackbeard, and I think Ian McShane will do justice to the role. I'm also curious to see how much of Tim Powers' novel makes its way into the script for the film.

Not a lot, I suspect- they already had a script when they bought the novel for its title. But they'll probably have added a few bits from the book.

My guess is that they combined the Hurwood character with Blackbeard and that much of Jack Shandy did in the novel will fall to Sparrow. Whether or not any other character from the book influences Barbossa remains to be seen.

Wouldn't it be great if the next movie... possibly next 3(4, 5 & 6 I have a feeling it will happen if 4 is big) are better than 1, 2 & 3.

As a rabid Powers fan, I'm both hopeful and fearful... if it tanks I worry he'll get splashed by it lol... hopefully it'll be good! :D

If it's successful, will they add Blackbeard back in the ride where he used to stand on the ship, now occupied by Barbossa?

I'd say it's about time. I'd always pictured him to be in the first movie and was disappointed when he wasn't.

I can't wait for the next installment. Ian McShane as Blackbeard is merely icing on the cake for me.

I'm a MAJOR fan of the franchise (and, if I do say so myself, can do a reasonably good Jack Sparrow impression ;)), so any Pirates 4 would have sent me running to the theater on opening night...but Ian's such a dang good addition--and the "Blackbeard" element implies a return to the "straightforward" pirate film element of The Curse of the Black Pearl. A nice, good, clean refreshment after the "epic scale" of Dead Man's Chest and At World's End--which, for better or for worse, had me leave the theater with my head spinning....

Also...Blackbeard's daughter being the female "foil" for Jack...well, let's just say I'm looking forward to this even more!

I'm thinking that Blackbeard's daughter is patterned after the character of Beth Hurwood from the novel. I wonder if they'll go for the 'dead wife' angle from the book as well.

This.
I'm cautiously optimistic since it seems a return to more "regular" pirate adventuring. What made Pirates 2 & 3 sooo bad was that as each movie came out it progressively ditched the internal logic set up in CotBP. The out there elements I'm fine with suspending my disbelief but once you begin breaking down your own internal rules, as laid out by Jack/Barabarosa, then I lose interest.

I want to see a trailer or two first I'm not instantly sold just yet.
