Spoilers First hand behind the scenes information

It's interesting what is jarring to different viewers. I honestly couldn't give a half a shit about the internal turbolift shots. They look fine to me, I couldn't care less about how the internal workings of a space ship's elevator is portrayed. How is that important? Same goes with ship nacelles being rounded or not, or klingon nose ridges being different than before.

I guess I'm just easy to please because the only things that really concern me are decent character development, plot arcs that make plausible sense, and compelling emotional story arcs that resonate.

As for the Enterprise bridge, I like this look. It's the perfect update.

That turbo lift interior space that could only fit in a TARDIS was used in Brother, which was directed by Kurtzman, but it was also just used in Light and Shadows, which was directed by Marta Cunningham. I'm sure it was just re-used footage.

I'll go on record here saying that I hope we never see it again (although I think we probably will).
I hope we do, and I hope we get an episode where they're climbing around the hollow interior of the Discovery.

The Planet of the Titans USS Enterprise concept the Disco is based on was hollow also, with a bunch of circular platforms suspended inside the ship, connected by Futurama tubes.

Weirdly, the interior concept was recycled for the James Bond movie Moonraker
It actually wasn't. :(

Love it:luvlove:
Both those turbolift shots were probably done in the same show and they just split the scene in chunks to spread other episodes.

Like I mentioned the art department didn’t pitch this direction. It came as a surprise and was done purely in post.
This I find hard to believe. The CG people wouldn't have gone rogue and make this, it would have been under "Brothers" director/Disco showrunner Alex Kurtzman's direction. And it would have been concepted before being made.

Also, remember that weird turbo lift scene they showed twice already zipping around the inside of the ship that is apparently hollow and has roller coaster elevator designs? That came as a shock to the Art department as well. It was just done in post randomly prob cuz the director thought it would look cool.
I must be the only person who was totally chill about that.

Even Mrs Relayer, who could accurately be portrayed as 'not overly bothered' by such things, commented negatively about it.

Could we assume that much of the internal partitioning of the ship / engineering section has been removed for some reason (to reduce mass for spore drive experiments ?) and that those turbolift rails would normally wind their way between floors, bulkheads, rooms etc. ?

It's more disappointing to know they specially did this TWICE.

I just tell myself it's just a stylized representation on the turbolifts, and there really isn't a hidden Tron cityscape inside the bulkheads of the ship.

Edit to add because I see 'TrickyDickie' said the same thing earlier:

I agree.
"Impressionism", "stylized"...whatever you want to call it, I choose to think this really isn't what it looks like.

I would love to see how this could be rationalised within a set of deck by deck blueprints!
